I would LOVE to qualify for the exceeding 138cm but my mare would probably have a heart attack if I asked her to jump a course of over 1m! lol

So the Large HOYS section goes up to about 3ft 6... with qual rounds at about 3ft-3ft3. Bigger than i thought they would be.

Thanks you jump according to the height of your pony, so if your fell does not exceed 138cms then he jumps in the middle height, otherwise he must jump in the large height

Is it different to the RIHS qualifiers then where you jump the middle height no matter what heigh for fells, dales and highlands?

I know that's the case with RIHS and thought it was the same. Its sooooo confusing

Nope it is just RIHS where the fells/dales/highlands can jump in the middle height section regardless of their own height. HOYS qualifiers have not adopted this approach yet! Hope that helps

No worries, having said that, HOYS have now changed the height divisions for M&M WHP. It will now be 12hh, 13hh, 14hh and exc 14hh. More info on the HOYS website, taking effect from 2013. x

... you are right magpie, but the rule change is a load of rubbish because those who are in dire need of change are the exceeding 143cm Highlands & Dales and the Shetland ponies yet they are the very ones to whom this change will make absolutely no difference at all .. think Hoys has totally missed the point!
grrrrr

For the RIHS if you have a fell, dales or highland that is over 138cm then you jump the fences for the under 138's but still compete in your section. For the hoys classes if your fell/dale/highland is over 138cm you jump the bigger fences regardless
