Just a whinge because I have lactose intolerance, and our two local supermarkets are slowly stopping stocking all the Lactofree products that I normally buy! I can only get the yoghurts at Sainsbury's, but they have now stopped doing the cheese. Tesco have never stocked the yoghurts, but always stocked the cheese. Just come back from Tesco and guess what? No flaming Lactofree cheese. I asked a shop assistant and it is unclear whether it is just out of stock, or whether they have also stopped stocking it. The only other lactose-free cheese on the shelves is a vegan one and I have tried it - tastes like vomit so will NOT be buying that one. Other than that, there is NO lactose-free cheese anywhere. I am already doing my shopping at all sorts of different shops to try and buy the Lactofree stuff. I like Lactofree because it actually tastes like the normal diary product, it just doesn't give me horrific tummy ache and other unpleasant symptoms. WHY do the bloody supermarkets have to stop stocking these niche products? Some people have no choice but to buy these specialist items and would have thought there are plenty of other lactose intolerant people out there. By the way - my lactose intolerance has been diagnosed by the hospital, so I am not just being fussy (this has been suggested to me by many people, when I have asked about the diary content of foods....). I was very ill with gastro problems for a long time, before they diagnosed lactose intolerance, and since using the Lactofree products my quality of life has improved ten-fold. I give up

Can you not get certain foods on prescription? My friend has coeliacs and gets a choice of bread or flour on prescription.

It is only people with coeliac disease who can get prescription bread, pasta etc. There is no similar scheme for people with other food allergies/intolerances. It would be nice, as I get free prescriptions due to another health problem! I am stuck with whatever the supermarkets are willing to provide.

Try emailing their customer services department at head office, you might get some help there.

My frustration is that the products WERE there until recently. Sainsbury's stocked the whole Lactofree range until just before Christmas - had the store check and they have withdrawn all products apart from the milk and yoghurts and this is the biggest Sainsbury's in Bolton. Tesco never stocked the yoghurt, so I continue to go to Sainsbury's for that, but now the cheese seems to have also been withdrawn from the biggest Tesco in the area (Reebok at Horwich). I did get the store assistant to check the records, and she said it was unclear whether it is simply out of stock or gone completely. She said that two weeks previously, the store had a revision of all product lines, and they have removed certain lines and bought in some new ones. She said it is entirely possible that lactofree cheese has gone. I know for a fact the only other lactose free cheese in either store is the horrible vegan one, so that leaves me cheese-less. I will email customer services if it emerges that they HAVE withdrawn the lactofree range. My next port of call is ANOTHER store, this time the new Morrisons in Leigh to see if they have any of what I am looking for. I already am going to 2 different stores 6 miles away from each other - if we add Morrisons into the mix its getting stupid! Thanks for the replies guys.

My dad too has a daily free diet, they shop at sainsburys but do it online, it seems more stuff is available online! He has chiabatta instead of bread and apparently asda do a free from isle that is bigger than most, but think free from is a little pricey!!

We are in Westhoughton so its the nearest one anyway. Tesco Horwich appears to have stopped stocking lactofree cheese and you are right, its the biggest supermarket for miles around!

Did online shopping for my dad when he had a knee replacement and they kept sending him all dented/broken stuff with expiry dates the same day as the delivery, so concluded it was a waste of time. I haven't tried Asda at Reebok, but have tried Asda at Leigh and they don't have it. I am fed up of going to a zillions different shops - it used to be just Tesco before I got diagnosed with this.... I'm going to look at Morrisons when I take the rabbit to the vet in Leigh.....

The smaller ones in Westhoughton and Leigh only have Lactofree milk.... I will ring Morrisons, but I am going to Leigh next week for the vets anyway, so it won't be out of my way. I don't fancy driving to Heaton Park just for cheese anyway

gosh you're difficult to please! just go without cheese and yoghurt? But I like cheese and yoghurt and I want to keep my calcium intake up. I take medication that can increase my risk of osteoporosis and we have a family history of it, so it makes sense to eat dairy products if possible. I am just cross that supermarkets randomly withdrawn perfectly good products from sale with no notice. This is the moaners area and I'm having a moan

Asda Leigh has the yoghurts but not the cheese - did go in a while back and checked the lactofree website too. I know about the freefrom aisles, but its really just the chilled dairy stuff thats a problem. There isn't one supermarket that stocks everything...

If you ask in sainsburys at the customer service desk they can check on something called RSS which checks their stock and stock of sainsburys in the local area

She advised me to come back next week... I have since located the cheese in Morrisons, so now am shopping in three different supermarkets!

Would your local health food store be of any use? I know a H&B that i used to go to had a chilled and frozen section, might be worth a try?
Also just to add, I have to be dairy free these days so i use soya products and they do fab yogurts and dessert pots! They also have a non curdle milk called Cafe Expert just for tea and coffee!!

Thanks for the Cafe Expert tip - will look out for that. Our local health food shop doesn't have a chilled section, so its all just UHT type stuff. Theres a shop in Manchester, but its a pain going in and parking etc! I have now found what I was looking for, it just all in 3 different supermarkets!

gosh you're difficult to please! just go without cheese and yoghurt? Would you like to explain why people should just go without I find that comment disgusting. I have egg intolerance and also get angry when the few items you can buy are withdrawn. Also it varies from store to store what they stock. It isn't just those few items it is the thin end of the wedge to what else people have to do without in their diets.

I think this comment was due to the fact that it didnt matter what helpful suggestions everyone was coming up with the OP wasnt happy and kept on moaning, there just is no pleasing people sometimes!! I understand the frustration as I have a very good friend who is lactose intolerant and therefore goes through the same problems, however she is not negative about it and suggestions made like the original poster has been. I feel sorry for anyone who has to consider what they eat and where to buy it, I certainly wouldnt like to have to go through it every week, the weekly shop is bad enough!
