Desktop I don't mean to sound like I am moaning, but despite many good suggestions I was still struggling! There isn't one supermarket that stocks all the lactofree items, so I have to travel around. The alternative lactose free cheese suggested is, unfortunately, vile - I have tried it, spent a lot of money on it and it went straight in the bin. My initial complaint was that a major supermarket, the biggest around, has chosen to remove these items from store, thus making it even harder to buy them - that was the issue.
I have accepted I am lactose intolerant, but for 26 years I WAS able to eat anything I wanted and now I suddenly can't and that is very very hard to deal with. My friends and family, who were used to me being able to eat/drink whatever they provide when I visit have also found it hard and I have found myself becoming less sociable as I don't want people forking out on expensive specialist foods just for me.
I am going to a hen party for one of my best mates in April and one of the activities is a posh cucumber sandwich & cake type lunch in a London hotel. I won't be able to eat anything as there is butter on the sandwiches and in the cakes, cream on the cakes etc. I have already contacted the hotel in question and they cannot accommodate lactose free for the particular lunch package my friend has already pre-booked (she didn't check dietary requirements before booking). Now, if I want to join in the hen do, I still have to pay for the lunch as it is a per person thing, but can't eat anything. The hotel also said they would not allow me to bring my own food. That makes me feel absolutely awful. I also have to supply my own milk and butter in the hotel for breakfast, but still pay full price. Its just extremely annoying and frustrating, hence why I moaned in the Moaner's area!
