Hi has anyone ever had a pony that didn't like being saddled after having a full clip?

Maybe the lack of hair means he is very sensitive, especially around girth area? You could use a padded/fleecy numnah and make sure girth isn't done up too tight until he gets used to it? He probably feels naked and everything will feel more sensitive on his skin!

Have you got the facility to warm his numnah? We have an old free standing electric towel rail in the tackroom, which I use to dry their outdoor rugs on, but it also doubles as a rug and numnah warmer in cold weather.

have had this before with one of ours, it seemd to be the prickliness rather than the lack of hair, fleecy munah for a few days did the trick with ours

He was clipped 3 weeks ago and he's still hating it. HE's very over sensitive, I've had his back done and had a new saddle fitted as the last one was a bit wide and he didn't like the movement. Put new saddle on today and after walking 4 strides with rider on brought his back up in the middle and rodeod. Even after rider came off he was still trying to get saddle off :-(

I know its too late, but can you clip and leave the saddle area on next time if he is very sensitive? Not much help now though, sorry

Is he only like this when he's been clipped? & how many times has he been ridden since he was clipped? It could just be that he feels more 'free' without any coat as my coloured does this for about 2 weeks after being clipped, so we lunge her for 10 minutes prior to me getting on, to let her energy out

I left mine a saddle patch as like yours he is very sensitive. If it were mine i would work on the lunge and free school until coat comes back or lead out on rides. There always is a chance he could get someone off again now he has done it. We changed numnahs at one show and i ended up in A&E he was not happy and bolted bucking never having done this before!!

My pony is fully clipped. He is chestnut and particularly sensitive with his skin. I have had no problems however with saddling or girth. He is however lively due to the breeze he now feels and needs to warm up a bit to relax. :-)

It has only been since he's been clipped that he's played up. The day after he was clipped he jumped around the stable when I saddled him up, he's since had his back done, which was sore, he's had his teeth done and had a new saddle fitted. Tomorrow I'm going to start lungeing him with saddle on and I've bought a magnetic back pad. So along with a poet numnah going to keep my fingers crossed that he improves. Thankyou for the advice.
