I've been digging about after something like this too but not come up with anything without molasses. I did use to use a product called "Le Brick" which was a heavily compressed block of feed that you could just lob in over the fence but they were expensive and I decided just to use more hay if needed. I am looking to use mineralised salt licks, not the same I know. If they come in the world of bucket feeds is you oyster, but I guess from your post you're like me - they live out 24/7 and you don't want to be putting buckets out for them.

If you are giving a bucket feed you could give a lite balancer and handfull off light chop such as hi fi light or they do a mollasses free chop as well but it is not so low in callories . That shouldnt hot him up but all ponies are different . Stay away from happy hoof though as it can make them a bit fresh depending on the pony .

Well if you are giving a bucket feed I'd go with ilovenatives and feed balancer and a bit of unmollased chaff. I had never heard of Argo but on looking them up see that both their chaffs are molassed so most likely it's that that is hotting your pony up. The trouble with bran is that the ratio of cacium:phosphorus is wrong for horses, which can affect bone growth. I saw that the Argo foragechaff contains limestone flour which would correct this, but not the chop.

I feed my d a bucket feed of mollichaff calmer - its a complete feed so no need really for balancer - he can't have ANYTHING heating it sends him round the twist !!!!!
