I have a section A that i have been showing in M&M classes. however we are entered in some LR Show Hunter Classes in a couple of weeks time.
Do i pull her tail or leave it natural???
Please offer your advice

Leave it natural for your m and m classes. You can plait it neatly for the LR hunter pony classes

I would just leave it as plaiting is more for sp's and not that many people plait there ponie's tail's anymore .

I agree - personally, I don't like plaited tails, if you dampen the tail & bandage then remove (the bandage not the tail!!!!) just before going in the ring it should keep it neat for the duration of your class.

we do lead rein show hunter classes and never plait the tail, though ours is pulled but as you do m and m i wouldnt pull it, as longs as its neat and tidy it will be acceptable, the tail bandage method is the best, leave on and take off 5 mins before going in ring and im sure you will be fine, best of luck

if you have untidy bits then I would say just pull to tidy it up, but not for a real pulled look. Then gel and bandage for shape - we did this with our sec b and he won at county level regularly, qual david manning etc, so it shouldn't be a problem good luck

a good douse of gel or hairsray and a damp tail bandage, you can dicreetly neaten the edges and get away with m & m, but the bandage normally works for ponies doing both.

Pollypoppet it depends on your pony's tail. If it is quite full around the dock but long enough to plait as long as it is done very neatly this will show off your pony's quarters better thank a damped down tail which even with gel can still look thick and slightly bushy. however if it is a finer type of hair you would probably get away with this method. Plaiting is perfectly acceptable in a pony who does both classes but make sure it is very nicely done.

thanks for all your advice, i was thinking of thinning it out slightly at the top, then plastering it with gel and bandaging until we are just about to go in the ring. i have put a picture of the pnies tail if it helps sorry its oly side on.

no reason why you can't register your pony with bsps as a shp

You can compete in BSPS without being registered (is that right Shelleyj?) - I think you only need to register if you qualify & want to take part in their Winter or Summer Champs.

I think thats right as long as you haven't been a member before, but its worth checking

Have checked it out & you can compete in BSPS classes without a height cert or being registered with BSPS - if you have never been a member previously & want to compete at the Champs you have 14 days from qualifying to become a member (with a height cert), if you have previously been a member & want to compete at the Champs you must rejoin prior to qualifying.
Does that make sense???
