I've just been informed that although I am a life member of P(UK) to get the Lee Smith qualifcation cards I need to upgrade to ALS and pay an extra £15.
Looking into their membership rates I noticed that A member is £50 but ALS is £65. So as home produced members we are effectively discriminated against.
Is it me or does anyone else find this irksome?

Yes I find this annoying too. There seems to be so many 'extras' you have to pay for. Yes we have to pay the £15 extra for those Lee-Smith classes they put on for us, however societies like BSPS do not charge extra for home produced classes.

I thought they were supposed to support home produced members.
I've been a life member for about 5 or 6 years and have never been asked to pay this fee before.
This policy is direct discrimination, because we elect to go it alone and not with producers.
I was in two minds about bothering to go to the winter champs, this has made my mind up.
I've also asked what happens when membership is renewed now but will expire in August, thus we are not getting a full 12 months, the answer was waffle that amounted to tough!

We did PUK for years & we just felt it was one cost, than an extra, another extra & so on. We've just moved to BSPS as you don't have to pay extra be HP & yes at the beginning there may be a little expense but then that's it done & dusted! Find the new PUK qualifications system rather confusing too.

What I find hard to swallow as a life member is that they have changed the rule for lee smith and expect me to pay an extra fee. I've been a life member for some years and signed up under the rules at that time, they have had the use of my money and now want more as they've figured out a wheeze to con more money from members.
