Hi We have found a lovely 12.2hh Welsh B x Arab for my son to ride - we are used to M&Ms though, so was wondering if it matters whether we buy a navy or a black show jacket? There's some nice second hand black ones I have seen, but would they be correct? Pony is chestnut with white snip and has a very Arab-y head. We will mainly be doing first ridden and capability classes at local level this season. Also, are his brown leather gloves still suitable? He has a suitable tie and shirt - tie is mainly blue paisley print with red highlights. Pony head shot: Thanks in advance for all information!

It depends what the pony will be shown as. If the pony is going to be shown as a SP, a navy jacket will be required with a tie to match the browband. If the pony is going to be shown as a SHP, a tweed jacket will be required with a tie to match the tweed check. Brown leather gloves are fine. Good luck

He is to be shown as a show pony - is a black jacket not at all correct then? We will have a navy browband with red accents I think. Also, as my son is, well, male he will not wear anything remotely girly and will have to select browbands/ties in appropriate colours and no sparkly bits!! I found a lot of show jackets are very tailored at the waist giving a feminine look - we didn't have this problem selecting a tweed jacket previously. Has anyone else found this?

Please can I bump this to confirm if navy showing jacket is correct for a little boy? Pony is FR show pony. I have been reading black is correct for boys, navy for girls, so am confused (used to M&M - have a lovely tweed!)
Finally, can anyone recommend a boy-cut make of jacket, as a lot are very feminine in their cut, button design and piping. Not got a massive budget either....

Mrs Candy, Le Beau Cheval, Showing Selection, Showing Time, Pretty Ponies etc. make a 'boy fit' jcket with a top pocket etc. you should be able to find a couple on here, ebay, horsequest or similar. It is actually correct for boys and men to wear black jackets and girls to wear navy although a lot of the younger boys wear navy until they hit about 11/12 then go into black. Personlly I think boys look better in black jackets. Try Taliesin browbands for a nice, cheap browband, very good quality, Rhi makes them exactly how you want them, with or without bling etc. fantastic quality browbands.

Thanks Tabby - am looking at a Ponies on Parade jacket, but wasn't sure of colour! Pony's owner already has a suitable browband she will use I think. Thanks for your post
