I have just started using the passeoa on my 4 year old novice, I have only used it twice, however I was wondering were am I best connecting the sides, should they be low down at first i .e under the girth or at the sides or should they be clipped at hand level? I have had advice on how to use the aid but thought i would ask aswell.
I have never really used the passeoa and always long leined however I have heard some good feedback on how it helps the horse to move from behind.
advice would be very much appreciated. ;D

Start between the legs and gradually move up through the rings on the side until it's on the top as youe horse becomes more advanced! I tend to just stick between the legs, i like the way it makes them go Hope that helps

You want to put it between the legs to start as this encourages the horse to lower there head and swing through their back. The higher you put it the more you are asking the horse to sit up and with a young horse it may not understand this and go very tense.

One of the only training aids that I personnally use, trust and actually see a positive difference with!
I agree with above
Start in between the front legs to encourage a longer, lower stretch and over a few weeks progressively move the pessoa clips up untill they are mimicking the postitioning of the riders hands and do this as the horse finds his balance and develops more strength and suppleness from working correct from his quarters

Sorry to butt in but can the aid be modified eg knots tied in to make it fit a small pony? All my ponies vary from small pony to cob size so don't want to buy 2 aids.
Thanks in advance

Yes you can tie knots in them! I did with my 12hh that I had. Passoa's are all one size as far as I am aware so this is the only way to do it is tie knots in. Agree with all of the above but build your time up, only do a few minutes to start of with as they use muscles that they probably haven't used before, especially a youngster. Brilliant things that really make a difference :-)

Guys remember to build this work up, start with 5 minutes at a time, start with the aid going between the legs for at least a month before you go higher, if you are riding and schooling aswell then you can just keep the passoa for long and low work in between the riding sessions. The mid way clips need to be about girth height or lower, and it needs to be loose - not tight it shouldn't hold them in, the idea is that it guides them into what you are asking. Warm up before and after and enjoy the results. (as trained by Dr Gail Williams in the early noughties)
