Think it is a shame that when a real debate gets going - with some well informed and knowledgeable opinions ( and obviously a few wildcards!) the thread gets locked or removed.
In the case of "HOYS classes being bought" - obviously there was some accurate predictions and contentious judging involved.
If the result was accurately reported and the prediction was made prior to the class, from a legal point of view there is no libellous issue here as it is true. Libel can only be speculation or lies.
I only followed the thread until about 1pm and thought it was well argued, obviously the mods may have had issues with it after that time- but surely rather than remove the whole thread - the contentious posts could have been deleted??
Do not know anymore about why it was removed and am prepared to be corrected on the whys and wherefores, however just wanted to make the point that sometimes one has to be outspoken to beat the cheats!!

The mods after reading through the HOYS thread and making minor adjustments as requested were quite happy to leave the thread running. The problem is people start getting personal which in turn ends up with the mods get pms asking for removal of a particular thread. If people gave a little more thought as to how they worded their posts we would be in a better position to leave the threads running.

Thanks for your clarification on this and I can understand your predicament.
Well argued intelligent debate is always worthwhile - however if it degenerates into a personal slanging match then I understand you have to step in.
In this case there was a serious and worthy subject being debated so it is a shame that it had to be removed.

It is clear the thread was removed because it is too near to the truth for the powers that be to defend perhaps.
I understand it is alleged that the thread was removed in response to the threat of legal action by the owner/trainer of the winner of this class.
No smoke without fire then? The comments just too near the truth for comfort for this person?

Remember Robert Maxwell?
He stole £800m from the pension fund of the Mirror Group Newpaper.
How did he get away with it?
He threatened lawyers / libel everytime anyone mentioned it!

It is clear the thread was removed because it is too near to the truth for the powers that be to defend perhaps. I understand it is alleged that the thread was removed in response to the threat of legal action by the owner/trainer of the winner of this class. For the record. We (the mods) remove/modify posts/threads by request. We do not remove posts by being threatened. The author of any post remains liable for that post , not the mod team. If there is a libellous or defamatory statement posted that we spot we will remove it instantly without a request. Other than that we let the threads run their course.
So you are misinformed awaywiththefairies.
