Is it "correct" for a first ridden rider to carry a whip?

not sure how correct it is, but have seen loads that do. My little one carries one as his rather chunky section a sometimes needs a little encouragement into canter. ( in Joe's hands this usually involves waving it in the general direction of Echo's shoulder but it works bless) Sometimes little legs need a spot of help! as long as they don't rely on the whip or overuse it.

It's completely up to you in FR whether or not you carry a whip. You won't (or shouldn't - well we haven't ever been marked down) for carrying one.

It's completely your desision. I used to carry one but only because my pony was a little sh*t & would drop his shoulder at every given chance!

My daughter does first ridden classes, told by her instructor To carry a whip, but not to use it in her show as a first ridden pony should be well mannerd and go off the leg.

JoJo your right in a manner of speaking.. and also very lucky to have a good first ridden.. however in my circumstance,, the pony had been used for the lead rein and she went of the lead on the same pony .. he got a little lost sometimes.. as we are not fortunate to have a bigger child to ride him in any other classes.. and get him going so he knows what he is doing..as so many first riddens are these days. Also your child should know how and when to use the crop accordingly our instructer who has judge as well and comes with good recommendations... tells us if the yare not going forward enough to send them on with the crop.!!.. this year her legs will be longer and i don't think she will have the same problems.. but sometimes not everything is so clear cut .
