I would personally be very disappointed if l won a trophy...not that it happens often, and then wasn't allowed to have it. I really see little point then in having a trophy as part of the class win..Blimy l could have my photo taken with lots of trophies but it just isn't the same and means nothing !!..However l do see what you are saying dun4u and it is just a shame that one or two spoil it for everyone else. I certainly think that replica's is a very good idea.
We won a trophy that was valued at over £3,000..I was so proud to have won it and it was on display in the house for all to see, but l would never ever think of keeping it after my year..Infact it went back last Saturday..It was just unfortunate that the pony that won it the previous year had just lost a bit of condition and therefore couldn't compete again this year. But we are up for it again next year...Hopefully !!!

We also won a trophy and were not allowed it, such a shame as the mare is now going in foal so hopefully won't be returning next year.
Also my stable was sodden, 3 times we emptied it and started again and we had shavings at the bottom and straw on top and at least 3 inches of water from the rain running through. Why not put stables on the grass?

Apart from the expense and prize money issues i enjoy PUK, however i was told after going champion in one class and having a picture taken with the judge presenting me the trophy for that section that i have to go and sign for it and was given a red card (similar to what Great yorkshire gives out), once getting and queuing up at the secretaries office and explaining we were there to sign for thr trophy weve just won i was told 'Ahh bless you, that card is your trophy', my boyfriend thought she was joking and said 'what? shes just had her photo taken with it' only to be told 'yes thats all their there for, to have a photo taken with it and what would we rather polish a trophy or a card!' we both said a trophy but were laughed at!!

Thanks dun4u, i understand why they do it but its such a shame for everyone else! Plus the card you get given is put under your stirrup leather for the lap of honour and creased and bent when you retrieve it!! I was more upset about being laughed at i was only doing what the judge told me to do who was also under the impression we received it once signed for!

Why can't they charge a 'deposit' for the trophies (on a sliding scale depending how valuable each trophy is) - people would then have the option of paying & getting a refund when they return it in the same condition they received it, if they don't want to pay then they don't get to have the trophy for a year. Our local RC champs are doing it this year & their trophies really aren't worth much!

We introduced a £10 deposit on all our trophies two years ago and we still had five missing a week before the Show. I spent three hours driving around to the given addresses to find that the occupiers were not those I was looking for, and in one case it was a completely dreamed up address. In other cases people gave wrong telephone/mobile numbers. It's unfortunate that the culprits were all showing people - it seems the show-jumpers are more reliable and, erm, honest.
We keep all the entry forms with details on them but in a lot of cases the writing is impossible to read even tho it states on the top 'Please complete in BLOCK CAPITALS'. Who'd be a Secretary, eh!

I know just how you feel hairylover! I did the same after winning the Royalist Championship. Went to the office all excited only to be told the card is a replacement for the trophy, Gutted! As you said the card is under the stirrup leather and marked! Not only that I lost my Champion rossette then found it had been handed in- then the office lose it! They told me they will post a new one. So i'm waiting!!

sorry "they" as in showing societies
i think after so many trophies mysteriously disappearing the societies are being too careful, and i can kinda understand why,
although i'd probably have changed my opinion had i won a trophy ay puk, i would have been the first to complain
i'm going to a local county show on bank holiday mon and the society have lost a total of 12 trophies- all dating back to 1970's- all lost in this current year- it's hard to believe but it is so easy to lose them and i feel for the show organisers who have such a hard job keeping track of them all

"i was there from wed till sunday and my stable was not wet once , and yes i was in duration ....i put shavings at bottom , then loads of staw on top and pony wore a NZ rug all week , all normal preventative things to do when in temporay stables and wet weather forecast !! I still stand with the view that if you look for things to moan about you will find them ! "
It was meant as a constructive criticism because for me it was the only thing that let the show down - I enjoyed it more than any other PUK in the last ten years!!

We feel so sorry for you all, In 2006 we were very lucky to win the colne M/m lr championship :-*and recieved a beautiful silver salver, on collecting the trophy we were advised to ensure it was insured for £500! Needless to say it was returned in 2007...So we understand how you feel, to see it , but not take it homemust be awful

With trophies if they wont let you take original why not buy some of the bling bling plated salvers like we now buy range from tint ones at £4 to plate sized at about £9 can be engraved and surley at least you would have something to take home with you ?

The fact remains the PUK should have put an anouncement on their website or a message somehow to let everyone know that they would not be getting trophys should they win, howawful for the person that was photographed with theirs onl to have it taken away after!!!!!!

Do they give replicas instead of originals so that at least you can take something home with you? No they gave you a card to put under you stirrup leather with the name of the trophy on, they should give small trophies to keep and the card that would make more sense?

I have only been goin to puk for the last 4 years and altho the weather hasnt always been great we have always had a good time but this year wasnt good at alll the people i go with have said they will be goin to eqifest nextyear so i will be goin where ever they go. i agree with the comment about the stuard in the show hunter ring she stood opposite way to the judge and comented and pointed out anything and everything wrong with pponies.
we also won a trophie or so we had thort but were presented with the trophie then given a card, when we went to colect the trophie they said we couldnt have it coz loads had been brought back damaged, and when we asked to see it they said we had to make an appointment??
and i loved the way loads ov favours were been done i saw a lot of rule breaking but what can you do about it?
and parents in the vip sponsor sections ??
i was also outraged when that little girl fell off in the evening peformance and didnt move the carried on with the prize givving near the gates but they brought the ambulance in and had the flashing lights on faceing the grandstand, what if some one was epileptic?
and the supream was judged infront of the sponsors so everyone in the grand stand didnt see half off it??

in 2008 i went to ponies uk and it was the judge with the long stick she stands with i dont no her name.
i was in a 4,5,6 year old small breeds class and i did my show and my pony like bucked and changed leg but she is only 4 and soo we went back to the line and the steward said to me dont strip .... then when everyone had finished there show the judge said to me the people i have asked not to strip can either leave now or stay but they wont get a place.
i was like ohh my gosh its a 4 ,5 ,6 year old class how are the young ones ment to learn!! then when i looked in the catologue my pony was the only 4 year old.
sooo im deffinately not going back i thing its appaling. and i think its gone down hill since it went to newark... i soo prefer bsps but i might be trying equifest this year ... does anyone know anything about it ..

I think that sounds like quite a reasonable and considerate thing for a judge to do. If she knows she's not going to place you because your pony's behaviour was bad, then giving you the option to stay or leave at least gives you the chance to go if you have another class to get ready for. Better than making you go through the whole class for nothing. You could have chosen to stay anyway for the experience for your pony as it was so young and green. That is how they learn.

Also- what if you have a pony that did a really good show but bad conformation like a sec D built like show hunter pony in a m&m class, and a pony that did a bad show but good conformation like a show pony in a m&m class- i know this wouldn't happen, but this helps me explain bettr If the judge hasn't seen the pony at the right angle, then they won't know, even if the pony is the best of it's type in the world

I couldnt decide this year which champs to compete at, P(UK), Equifest or BSPS, for obvious economic reasons couldnt compete at more than one to decided to compete this year at Ponies UK - NEVER AGAIN!!
I fully appreciate the ever rising costs of staging these shows and the entry fees reflect these costs to the societies but Come on guys think about it, the cost of each entry at the championships was circa £28.00 per class!! For what??? What are you getting back now as a competitor??
NO PRIZE MONEY NOW NO TROPHIES AWARDED!! ROSETTES ONLY TO 6th PLACE (Not 10th like they used too!) NO SASH FOR CHAMPION (was told because it wasnt a "National Championship" no sash is awarded, but as I pointed out we still had paid £28.00 for the class.
With regards to the number of competitors remaining in the ring to strip after they have done their show - Whats the point, P(UK) Do not operate a Marks System for their classes (only the HOYS classes are marked) so the confirmation phase dosnt really make any difference as no marks are added up!!
I think "RIPPED OFF" springs to mind.
