after being at PUK all week, practically everyone i've spoken to was complaining,
on another thread i said that i would stand by PUK no matter what- i've changed my mind and will definately not be supporting PUK anymore.
put all PUK moans here
we had a problem with steward- she kept tapping the judge on shoulder when my pony went a bit tense behind judges back, so that the judge saw. the SHP classes were an absolute joke, this steward kept shouting at competitiors and writing stuff down on a mark sheet that she wasn't in charge of. One girl was even sat crying, she only looked about 9. The winner of 4 143 SHP classes wasn't even placed in 2 other classes. The 143 ride judge was giant and terrible- not like the 153 ride judge- who did a great job and rode beautifully.
in one of the open classes, 5 wrong legs, and one unsound pony were in top 10, - they weren't even nice ponies- so wouldn't have scored high marks in conf.
rosettes in the lee-smith champ classes only went to 6th. the elson point were discusting and so were the toilets.
There was a fire in a gazeebo 3 wagons down from us- due to a barbecue, a pony was being stabled in a trailer, where was enforcement of rules.
the only good thing was the weather lol.
ok, i'm done- now i'll sit and watch my karmas disappear

Have you ever stewarded? will be going to equifest next year, i've always loved PUK every year since 1996- so that's why i went if you didn't hear any moaning you should have stood outside the entrance to the blue ring colleting area, near cortlea numnahs. yes, i've stewarded, and i always thought that it was the job of the steward to do the admin work of the judge and assist both the judge and competitors and any other problems such as flapping parents. but when a steward tells my mum's friend, who was judging, where to place competitors, that's when things start getting serious, it is not the job of the steward to do this, luckily some of the judges ignored this steward- when it comes to the mark sheet, she took it off a fellow steward 10 mins after the competitor concerned, scribbled something out, and did what looked like, writing something else in it's place

I have always supported P(UK) and stood by them this year but will not be going next year. The Open classes did not give any prize money if 6 or less catalogued. Even if 12 entered on the day no prize money was given. Then after winning a Championship was told that trophies were no longer been given for the majority of classes. The few that now had trophies were not given out but you could have a photograph taken with the trophy. I asked if they were going to be engraved with the winners name and the answer was NO. The entry fees are probably the most expensive and absolutely nothing is given back to the competitors. We will be at Equifest next year.

its the same every year and people still pay to be abused all you want is to enjoy your sport and be judged fairly i havent been to puk since 2002 its cheaper to take the kids abroad and have a nice relaxing holiday without being ripped off these societies charge ridiculous money to be members and the members monies are being spent on hospitality. i stewarded once at the bsps officials were having a great time living up more needs to be done to give something back to the members other than the chance to qualify for a show

we thought it was rude that in the evening performence that all the ponies had their bottoms to the grandstands where most people were sitting. we also decided to stay with puk this year but we have decided to go to equifest next year. once again stewards and buggy riders were rude souting at children rather than offering advice. And we have been at puk for 20 years now, but it is just too expensive and the atmosphere seems to have gone. Its ashame that puk do not seem to notice what is going on arround them!

I for one will NEVER go back to PUK again, to have a trophy with held and give a stupid piece of card instead, what an insult daught even asked to look at the trophy which they said they could not. you work all year and dream of winning such a prestigious trophy and then nothing. I found the stewards very rude and even some of the judges. The whole thing lacked sparkle and atmosphere and nearly every stall holder I spoke to told me that they would not be returning as they had not even made enough sales to over the cost of the pitch. Janet Jenkinson, who has supported both PUK and BSPS for many many years asked if she could put up a sign on her stall for guinea pigs for sale, she was told yes if you pay £20, what an insult. So most of these stall holders are going to contact Equifest so I am sure it will be inundated with stalls next year as well as competitors. Everyone i spoke to was disgrutled in one way or another and I am sick of lining all these pockets. Another thing that infuriated me was the way the comentator spoke more to the Mothers in the VIP area than the competitors as most people who won championships seemed to be sponsors, this could be coincidental but it makes normal people feel a little belittled. Yes the show is well organised and I really tried to enjoy this as best I could and I have always stuck up for PUK even when everyone else was slagging it off but on a couple of occasions the judges comments really knocked my little girl's confidence and very much upset me. The young was such be encouraged with a well done not slatted no wonder so many give up riding when they get to their teens.

Sounds like the same fizzy pink stuff we bought by the bucket load today to take to BSPS this week............... all welcome, we know it's expensive, we know the producers get the lions share of the wins, we know we could go abroad for a week for what it has cost us, but we still love it. Being around our beloved ponies and children, meeting old friends, catching up on all the news, no driving or work for 5 days, and above all loads and loads of fizzy pink wine!!!!!!!

Wet Stables!!!! Ok not even Davina can control the weather, but my duration stables had craters in them which filled up with water at the slitest hint of rain. Either Newark or PUK need to sort the surface out - and also the road which runs down the side. It's amazing how quickly it floods - you would think that an Agricultural Society would know how to put a few drains in.

i was there from wed till sunday and my stable was not wet once , and yes i was in duration ....i put shavings at bottom , then loads of staw on top and pony wore a NZ rug all week , all normal preventative things to do when in temporay stables and wet weather forecast !! I still stand with the view that if you look for things to moan about you will find them ! I had a fab time ...things i would change ...too many wasps ...more sun ,hot power shower in my lorry , and bigger fridge for the pink fizzy !!! all of which am sure are not under a show organisers control !! Well done PUK i think you did a fab job !

Because people like you come on here moaning instead of going through the appropriate channels. If it is true I am sure PUk will do something about it.

We all had a great time at p uk. Stables, judges, stewards, showers etc were all fine.
My only grudge being, we won two trophys and could not have them. I was told when i went to collect them,no trophys will be given out,as they had received some back in poor condition. Penalise those who return them damaged, why should everyone else suffer, they have there details?

Im not going to comment on the Champs itself. BUT I do feel with-hollding these trophies is really wrong Most of these trophies were donated to PUK, if someone wins a trophy they have every right to take it home and have their name engraved on it!! If it then comes back damaged PUK get to use the deposit you have to leave on collection to repair or replace!!!

You'll see on the thread below that many, many cups are never returned. horsegossip.proboards54.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=7061Often the recipients cannot be traced so how can you introduce some sort of penalty, even though a deposit has been paid. This is becoming a real bugbear with many show organisers and I for one can quite understand why P(UK) are witholding them. One of our oldest cups which went missing goes right back to the fifties with riders' and ponies' names engraved on two plinths - some of which have now become household names.
