I feel so sorry for you, i walk my dogs of the leads but if i see some one with a dog common sense says u put your dog on a lead even if the other dog is friendly, i think you are in your right as this gentleman wasn't controlling his dog and it ran up to yours. so your dog so it as a unprovoked attack and most dogs it stood it ground and protected the top dog (your mum). my 2 year old black Labrador has a think at barking at everybody as she's protecting us (as she see it i feel its more annoying) and she'll pull to ward them (tail still wagging) a give a sharp boot up the bum on a smack round nose with the lead end. works a treat.
you are under no obligation to pay the bill as your dog was restrained and and under your control.
They cannot order you dog to be put to sleep when it attacks another dog when restrained. Not all dogs get will along in public, they are pack orientated and will always protect the owner.
It's the Yorkie owners fault for owning a little rat dog that they had no intention of controlling. The Yorkie owner was irresponsible by not controlling their dog whilst around another restrained dog. If the dog is restrained, it may be for a reason and it is the owners responsibility to control their own dog accordingly. Nothing wrong has been done wrong on your mothers part.

Why should you be forced to muzzle your dog so others can exercise theirs off lead I am fed up with dogs charging at mine growling.

luckily we have our own fields to walk our doggles on but when i take them to a country park or wood they are on leads and i get so pee** off when the dollydaydreamers of the dog world let there dogs run up to mine ( have a staffie 2 jack russells and a mongrel of all sorts) and then shout ' oh he or she is fine!' my dogs can be aggressive and they are in a pack - so i shout back through gritted teeth ' can you get your dog mine are not ok and will bite.' ( They prob wouldn't but you should see them shift .) A couple of years ago we had a german shepard sadly now deceased lovely dog wouldn't have hurt a fly ..... and a daft woman used to ride her horse past our farm (on the road) with her GSD wandering in and out of our farm not on a lead and she had no control over it whatsoever . So one day it ran in peeing everywhere and our GSD flew at it well she was fuming and couldn't see what she had done wrong how arrogant can people be ? rant over !!

also we have a rottie bit*h and she doesn't like other dominant females app this is quite typical of the breed . tesskat i would get legal advice he hasn't got a leg to stand on and if hes shouting at you in the street etc this is anti social behaviour and its not acceptable . x

I have two dogs - a gsd x akita bit*h and a gsd dog. I walk both off the lead most of the time although when we meet other dogs I will put the dog on the lead - just because he will run up to any dog to play. The bit*h however, knows not to and mind her own business. If for some reason my dog did run up to another dog and was bitten - it would be his own fault and maybe teach him not to go running at others - I certainly would not be asking the other dog walker to pay the bill - Maybe it will take the gentleman's (well?) other dog to be bitten for him to take notice. It should be him that goes to dog training lessons for dog walking etiquette. Ignore him - you / or your mother - were and are in the right.

thankyou starrider id completley forgot i had put this post on but we still have trouble to this day with the little worm but he doesnt realise it is all on camera that his wife stands at my back gates with the dogs winding mine up through the patio which makes her launch at the glass and i now only think its time before she goes through the glass and when she dose its not going to be pretty but since all this she has gone dog aggressive towards all dogs now which make it hard work to hold a 9stone rottie when she is gunns blazing but still she is muzzled and always on the lead cant afford any more mishaps
