With the new show season rapidly approaching it got me thinking - has anyone heard on the grapevine what the latest trends are for this year? I am thinking of setting one. I got the idea a couple of years ago but have never really got round to putting it out there. Lead Rein runners - We always seem to wear "Granny Suits" of some description or another and 9/10 look much older than we really are SO I was thinking, as a new outfit for this year, Corsets, Hot Pants, Fishnets, High Heels and for a hat - a Fashionator! What do you think?!? Will the trend take off? And more to the point, will I win more classes to start with because I stand out from the crowd?!? Thoughts on a postcard What other trands shall we try to set this year, or aim for introducing for next year?

Well you wont get lost amongst a mass of navy suits and bay/grey ponies will you. I did see one lady beautifully turned out in a snazy floaty pink number in silk organza strangely she went out with the also rans at a big county show not sure why really she looked ready for a wedding but very nice and certainly different.

Think I may have beaten you to it on the fishnets - have worn them with my long shorts or culottes at affiliated level for the last 3 seasons!!!

Concours d'chavviness - wearing shell suits and/or very low rise jeans and a scruffy t-shirt. Gold and faux-diamond bling optional.......

Muggly, I couldn't agree more re: the lead rein outfits! They SERIOUSLY need updating - though I wasn thinking more short/knee length tweed skirts, white shirt, fitted jackets, thick tights and boots though.... It is possible to update the look whilst staying classy

having seen a young 'lady' showing in hand last year in a tweed jacket, mini rara skirt and fishnets with dubarry boots I can tell you the chavvy look is not a good one, The judge was not impressed and it just looked cheap!
If you want something a bit different for lead rein handlers but still classy I do like the jacket and fitted tweed cullotes a la Katy Carter or the full length tweed coats look very smart too, but sadly both do need deep pockets to pay for them! I guess the old problem is always how to stand out (for the right reasons!) in a large class, wonder if there is a colour to be seen in that will make a change from boring navy.

M&M lead rein, I used to wear tailored suede cullottes in a deep green, topped with a nice austrian fitted cardigan, cream blouse and sensible felt hat to match . Flat brown boots completed the look, in BSPS classes I used the same look only wore navy with black boots. I kept it simple but classy and most importantly workmanlike . I really cant do with todays wedding look.

I used to show in hand ponies in beige cord culottes years ago, and was told by a judge that it distracted from looking at the ponies legs moving, so I stopped and wore trousers instead. OK, I know not LR - actually I'm looking at a photo now of me leading daughter and her Dartmoor wearing them to do a LR class, but she didn't do many, she much preferred actually doing things to showing.

Iwas thinking in my cob class of wearing abikini top, shorts and flip flops, thinking the sight of my boobies bouncing about might distract the judge from the naughty dtuff my horse does..lol

Maybe save it just for the male judges... You'd be wasting your time there with 9 10ths of them. They're all on the other bus!!

Ha ha ha found this thread highly amusing...I do feel very old when in my LR outfit and this wasn't helped by my Mum's comment, " OOo you look like Princess Ann"! I think she meant this as a compliment, needless to say I was absolutely gutted.

I think LR outfits for leaders should be lots of floaty chiffon, preferably floor length to give the same impression as the pooch that won crufts. You can't be distracted by the legs moving as you can't see them and on a windy day the chiffon will float in all directions, add some maribou feathers and it will look like a mini galleon in full sail. Might not be practical but you'll soon see who the proper sensible ponies and it'll certainly give me a laugh when I'm in the next door ring about to ride 30 overweight cobs.

Fit men, with abs off the front of "Mens Health" running in hand horses in just a pair of white boxers and a bow tie................
Every rider who is coming out to do an individual show hands the judge a shot of delicious alcoholic something or other as part of the salute.
Judges awarding the 1st place and qualification to the person that gives them the best lunch/holiday/car/brown envelope... Oh sorry we already have that.
bumfreezer jackets with sleeves that are too short and shirt collars that are too tight FOR ADULTS.
One handed canters in hack classes crossed with "THE VOICE", the rider has to sing a song a la karaoke into a microphone instead of the cane, judge cannot watch the show until the halt, rein back.
Forget all that dressing up smart, we all go showing in our usual morning get up. Fleeces, sweat pants, no bra, bobble hat, pink wellies.
