I have a new 14hh SHP and I am usually doing WHP class' so am not sure whether I need to being doing a long or short, bouncy canter??

Long strided canter, which covers the ground.

Your pony should preferably have a long striding canter, cover the ground and should track up well. However, don't run him/her by making her go faster to achieve it, as that will just unbalance the pony.

Do you mean for flat classes or workers classes? I read it as she usually does WHP but now doing SHP? However a stride which covers the ground is required in both, however Workers should probably have that bit more scope.

From what I can tell, SHP's are supposed to be smooth in everything they do...nice balanced paces, cover the ground etc...I'm a WHP rider too, but I've been studying the flats cause I've got to do a few this year!!

your meant to do long strides but i hardly ever see that in the class
