So for children in an evening (not a concours), do you think a Hard strapped hat worn in the daytime or a top hat looks better? IMO I think a Hard Hat looks much smarter & also much safer.

Hard hat everytime. I have seen you can get top-hat style hat toppers for concours, so the child can keep on their strapped hard hat, but look like they're wearing a top hat. I wouldn't let my son ride in any class without a fastened hard hat

Definitely a hard hat...I personally think they look better and are soooo much safer - i've heard many stories of accidents with top hats!

i think children should have hard hats on at all times in ridden classes whatever it may be and for in hand as well. Just remember the pony doesn't have to be naughty a simple slip or trip could result in a serious injury and heads are not so easy to fix, it's just not worth it.

A few years ago my sister was riding an M&M in a tiny ring, cantering around & he was totally safe pony - he just tripped & she fell off straight onto her face - if it wasn't for her hat & the hat peak, according to the Ambulance & First Aid Staff, her face would have been crushed, & could have possibly had a fractured skull. The peak on her hat stopped her face hitting the ground. She still get shoulder pains from the fall. Really annoys me when people say "Naah it's okay so & so is really safe" - just takes another pony, pony to be stung by a wasp, the pony to trip or slip - WEAR A HAT!

Thats the thing - YOUR pony may be a saint, but what if the grumpy one in front kicks out or something unexpected happens? I personally think hard strapped hats should be worn at all times for all riders, not just juniors.

Personally, I think top hats look silly on children and ruin the overall imagine. Also safety is the most important thing too!

Hard hats every single time, it's not worth the risk IMO!

I agree hard hat- i am 14 and i enjoy the whole attire of the top hat as it does look alot bettter to me- But its safety first! the only class i insist on a top hat is concours as it makes my outfit. x x
