My pony has never been spooky ever! Nothing fazes him! But for about 3 months puddles have become a massive issue! Leading him through the feild, I try to walk him over it or near it, it turns into trotting off, spinning and throughing himself around!!:/ Now it has started whilst ridden! Can anybody help?!:/

Wear rubber boots and walk through them yourself without trying to force him in. Potter about in there and have fun, letting him watch from the end of a rope - if necessary a lungeline, it depends how big your puddles are. Sounds mad I know but does work! I trained my D to walk through a local ford like this.

hi, this is very much my first reply to anyone on here as i m new, but here goes, sarah is right on what shes saying. Horses are naturally curious about everything, so to force them into doing something is the wrong way to go. An example is, how many horses do you know that are scared of plastic bags yet when one is blowing across a field they all want to go and see it. the same goes for loading a horse, try and make it go in and you ll struggle. make it go away from the trailer at the right moment and you make him more curious about going in. Apply this method to your puddle, by making him curious of it and he ll want to go in. when all is said and done though, its a trust and a confidence in you, the handler. hope that wasnt too long winded. Ant
