Join Up is not parelli, it is what Monty Roberts develop from the basics of advance and retreat, something horsey people have known about in various shapes and forms for years. What Monty refined into Join Up is a series of body language-based exercises/movements (usually in the round pen) which "ask" a horse to work in partnership with you.
Personally, having dealt with a horse which had been "trained" using Parelli, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you're having doubts, watch the video of the Parelli cowboys "training" that poor horse of the Whitakers. My god

I have a parelli style pressure halter. I also have the rope to go with it. I don't use it to wiggle under the jaw, I think that's horrid. It does create a head shy horse as well. I don't understand the logic behind it.
The halter however, is just a simple knotted rope halter really, which I like because it releases pressure instantly. I use the rope as I find a lunge rope a little too long but when loading etc that extra rope length is invaluable, without it getting in knots.
I don't buy into anything else "Parelli" and haven't trained using their methods at all. But I do think that the halter, as is any good, humane pressure halter - used correctly, a useful bit of kit.
I do think the clip on the rope is too heavy though and try to hold it when leading to take the weight off the head. If I could find a thick enough rope of the desired length without it I'd be happier.
I use my halter for leading and loading mainly and have had success with it for both, where otherwise a tricky situation may have occurred.

I don't know the halter but if the clip is too heavy it will negate the release effect if you are trying to use a pressure/release technique by putting weight on the head instead.

Can Mods lock this thread? It has strayed away from the original post and I think these issues need to be dealt with on SarahP's other thread as she clearly stated before.
My OP was asking if a small parelli halter existed - or soemthing of that nature. I was looking for something to teach my youngster in a kind way that invasion of space isn't acceptable.
It has now become a discussion of Parelli in general which is not the reason why I posted the thread.
