I have a section a who is very safe, goes nicely on the bit and moves to voice but there is nothing from behind his backend doesnt seem to move. I have just started long reining him and we are lucky to have a big hill near the yard so I have started long reining him up and down that. Any more ideas to get the lazy man to move. x

I lunge my section A with long reins and carry a lunge whip! My section A also is prone to laziness but he's not when I lunge him this way. Lots of changes of direction and can even add some poles. Mine gets bored easily. This is how Katy Carter lunges her small ponies.

Have you tried him on a Pessoa? This will really make him engage his back end - once or twice a week should be sufficient to help.

Hillwork, polework, and lots of transitions on the lunge or under saddle if you have a jockey for him. I've personally never used a pessoa but have heard they are very good for engaging the back end.

Pessoas are only good once your horse is willing to go forward.
Plenty of long reining out on hacks too I find is very good to get them going forward. I wouldn't bore him in the school, get him out and freshen up his mind, he could just be bored with the work and so not putting full effort into it.

We have a similar problem, a friend said to me today about trying her pessoa to try to assist my daughters schooling. Has any one got advice on making sure I have it adjusted to the right size, do not want to use make it to tight, but enough to be working?

I'd have a chiropracter/physio out to make sure all was well first, then look at hill work, pole work and long lining.
