As per title can anyone provide one as i am totally confused ! blue jackets for SP? tweed for M&M? when do the black and red etc come in? jumping? but can you wear blue for jumping too? do hat covers have to match the jacket or the boots? when is it ok to wear a bling browband? when to use a stock and when a tie? are culottes versus skirt for lead rein a matter of personal taste? when is it brown boots and when black? just some of the million questions i have! if anyone has a minute to kill time please please jot down your thoughts many thanks xx

Showing= Navy and Tweed Jackets only. (However some do use Black instead of Navy). A velvet hat is prefered, to match the jacket's collar- which is usually Navy or Brown velvet, but can also be tweed. Navy jacket = navy hat. Long black boots, and short brown/oxblood boots. Blingy browband- Show Ponies, Hacks & Riding horses (+Intermediates) (I may have missed some ).. but mainly plaited fine boned/bodied horses. I'm more into the ponies rather than the horses, so not all clued up about horse classes sorry!

Ok I'll have a go! Blue jacket - women's and children's SP Black jacket - men's and boy's SP Red jacket (also some blues and blacks, usually with piping) - jumping Tweed - M&M, show hunters, riding ponies, working hunters Brown boots - juniors Black boots - seniors Velvet colour - to match jacket but navy is always fine. Brown velvet if it matches tweed for example Stock - women Tie - anyone Lead rein - skirt, trousers or culottes doesn't matter so long as its smart and complements jockey and pony's colouring (i.e. light legs - dark pants. Dark legs - light pants) Bling browband - only for SPs and in moderation in my opinion!
Hope everyone agrees??

Oh and a stock is used in Evening Performances, and a tie is used in your average class.

You sometimes see men wear red jackets/coats on hunters in championships/evenings. Oh and bling browbands go on show ponies, hacks, riding horses and some types of coloured. Would be helpful if the original poster could state what classes they are looking to do, then we could be more specific?

For me Milliesmum, bling browbands should be confined to small children only, but that's me being a miser! I think plain tack looks neater and more professional, but I am not into bling in general. You won't find me with diamantes on my jeans etc....

Couple of things I would change on your list Nia Brown boots - short - juniors / ponies / M&M Small Breeds Black boots - long - seniors / horses / M&M Large Breeds There are a few variations on that, e.g. older juniors on large M&Ms may be better in long boots, riders on the bigger 15hh SHP also in long boots, some jockeys on smaller large breeds (e.g. smaller NFs and Welsh Cs) may look better in short boots. The rule isn't always hard and fast. Stock - dressage or evening performance. White should only be worn with a navy jacket - always a coloured stock with tweed. Tie - Normal showing classes, also can be worn for lower levels of dressage

Yeah I didn't specify the long/short boots as she didn't state what she was riding - should have been more specific eh? And my bad on stocks....
we should produce a written guide, sell it and make mega profits for a charity or something, as these questions are asked lots. I have asked about certain things as well

You won't find me with diamantes on my jeans etc.... Velvet browbands are correct for some horse classes, but generally more subtle than ponies! I *think* it's velvet browband with tweed for riding horse, velvet with navy for hacks and plain browband with tweed for hunters. But I'm no expert with horses!

You won't find me with diamantes on my jeans etc.... The really blingy ones are used on show ponies, riding horses tend to be a bit more discreet coloured ones, hacks tend to be somewhere in the middle. Personally I'm a 'less is more' person too, but was just stating the classes in which coloured/bling browbands are acceptable. Personally I'd keep the diamante ones for evenings under the lights.
