Why is it that so few M&M riders make the transition on to horses?

Usually horse riders move back to M&Ms! There's not reason why they can't more like they don't want to and don't need to as M&Ms will do everything you want if you have the right one.

Personally, I don't enjoy riding horses as much as I enjoy riding ponies so I am happy sticking to my M&Ms.

Not so sure that M&M jockeys would find it so easy to move onto horses. Certainly those riding horses do it for a bit a bit of fun.

I choose to ride an M&M, have had horses in the past but find the M&M ponies far more fun to ride, more versatile and a lot easier to take care of, I don't think I would ever go back to horses

Can't stand plaiting so as soon as we're out of 14.2 classes we'll be moving to purely M&M's!

The M&M's are good value but the crowd with them can be very bit*hy. The horse professionals are far more straight talking.

You are so wrong and it is sad you have to say such things. So unnecessary. We have horses and also played the M&M game up until a few years ago. I can guarantee the horse crowd are far more affable and supportive to each other than the M&M voices on this website. In general we are a decent crowd both in the ring and outside.

This started off as a reasonable request Can M&M riders move on to horses, and yes they can and vise - versa, yet again a Guest turns it into a slanging match, before you start on me Vanessa yes you did start it by your original comment

Yes and back again daily, is my answer to the question, ......we have made some lovely friends with equines from across the fields ie M& M, coloured, show, from 11.2 to 18.1, we are in a lucky position to have shetties, to Ds, to traditionals, to a show hunter......why because we simply love horses and work all god dam hours to keep them how they deserve to be kept. Do we show weekly, no when we feel like it, do we ride daily, yes!!
We have met unkind people in all the speres but just choose to have nothing what so ever to do with them. My circle of friends I choose to be associated with are lovely, you know who you all are..... and I have to say with the very odd exception we have met some smashing people .....after all you cant be too bad if like our four legged equines ..... can you!!!!

I have ridden all types in the past but now only have one non purebred native
I do not see any difference riding any type or size to be honest and have been at shows where I have been riding an exmoor and the next class I am on a show hack and then onto a worker!!!!
for me it is purely easier with our climate/location, to keep M&M's than it is to keep show horses and having had plaited to show since I was a child and then when I got my first show pony, I enjoy not plaiting anymore! plus M&M you can have the one pony who's reasonably cheap to keep both financially and time wise and you can go out and do a bit of everything from showing to eventing etc etc
I cannot see how there would be a problem for someone who shows M&M's to go and show horses and know many up here that do both and own both!

Dont see the problem with going up to horses or back down to M&M's however for us its easier to have M&m's although their is nothing wrong with sp's just easier as the family is, as a whole, more M&M related!

Well my daughter (chloe) so nothing hidden here is very small and has always ridden M&ms and we always had an intermediate. This year she has been out of class and made the decision to stay on M&Ms but is also a ride judge for BSHA which I think is vital so she does ride horses as well as the ponies. I have missed the plaited's desperately and we did buy a youngster who hopefully will come out next year as a hack and p/b so we will be doing horses and m&ms. so I hope you are right and people can do both successfully!

I ride M&Ms and I am 33 when I came out of plaited whps in the '90's I concentrated on BSJA young rider classes and my little 15hh worker went to grade b. The cost of running a team of sj was well beyond my 'normal' families budget.
After a 6 yr career break I came back and started showing again seriously with M&Ms - not because I they are all I can manage to ride but their purchase price is within my budgets. How I would love a serious WH or Hack. I would love to BE event again too but after bank rupting myself to purchase a few good horses of the quality I would want I then wouldnt be able to afford to run them!

We've done it all as well. HAd M&Ms when daughter was younger - but got a loan horse which she show jumped - that went back - got a young horse to bring on - that went back - bought an Anglo who was perfect but sadly he got injured so was PTS. Bought an ex race horse - showed that - then decided to go back to M&Ms which is what we mostly own now. But she does ride a 17hh dressage horse for somebody and has no prob going from the 13hh welsh B to that I prefer the M&Ms as I can cope with them in the stable - I would never be able to rug up anything over 15hh!!

What a funny question! A bit like asking can Mini driver's drive anything else? Can a BMX rider ride any other bike? Can people who swim in lakes swim in rivers? All have the same answer....of course they can! It is all down to personal preference at the end of the day!
