in respect of the ride judge for the coloured class I would like to make the following points. When the ride judge became aware of the mixed class he expressed his concern and diplomaticly pointed out that this class should not be ridden, as he was aware that it is not correct to ride in a mixed class. He was however ORDERED to ride the "animals that i want ridden" by an extremely obnoxious conf judge. It was not Mr Clarkes wish to ride the horses/ponies in question and he was heard to appologise to riders when mounting their horses! The conf judge was rude to the competitors, and the ride judge alike. With regards to Mr. Clarkes riding ability I had heard nothing but praise for his excellent standard of riding in the hunter classes of the previous day, being both sympathetic and professional. I would indeed be only too happy to welcome him aboard any of my horses!!

I was not at Rl but would like to say this, ANY Judge who is willing and able (as Mr Clark is) to ride anyones horse in this day and age of litigation, nasty remarks etc should be patted on the back! Whether it was correct for a mixed class or not. We entered a mixed PBA class at the royal Welsh and all over 14.2 were ridden. We have a distinct lack of good and considerate ride judges in showing and Mr Clark is both,. Therefore I suggest he needs a pat on the back rather than being stabbed in it!

Surely it should have stated in the schdule if the judge was going to ride the ponies?

Didn't state in Royal welsh either but surely a horse should be schooled enough to accept a ride judge, if they are a novice you can allways request to do a show and surely it stated in the sched that there were 2 judges???

I won the coloured N/C/T class which has been under so much discussion, and the ride judge did indeed apologise to me prior to mounting my horse, as he knew that he should not ride in a mixed height class. He was a kind sympathetic light rider, so in answer to a comment made earlier that he was so under pressure he "could not ride" this was not the case! The owners of any horses who did not go well for him should have a look at their own schooling at home, the judge should not have to school your unbalanced horse in the ring! He gave my boy a lovely ride round In the in hand class I found Mr Jenvey to be business like and thorough, I didn't personally hear him give Mr Clarke a hard time but am of impression Mr Clarke was there as the rider rather than actually a co judge and was acting on orders, as those ponies who did individual shows did them for Mr Jenvey.

::)LET US ALL MAKE IT CLEAR HERE,THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH MR.JENVY NOT WITH THE RIDE JUDGE.THE RIDE JUDGE IS A LOVELY POLITE YOUNG MAN .UNLIKE MR.JENVY.

Sounds to me you would have been better of to go to chaps like we did Where there is set rule book that both judges and riders understand! We had a great time very helpful knowlegable judges which knew the rules

:oSURELY MR .JENVY SHOULD KNOW THE RULES REGARDING RIDING THE EXHIBITS .IF HE IS A CHAPS JUDGE.WE WILL GIVE RL A MISS NEXT YEAR.

:oSURELY MR .JENVY SHOULD KNOW THE RULES REGARDING RIDING THE EXHIBITS .IF HE IS A CHAPS JUDGE.WE WILL GIVE RL A MISS NEXT YEAR. Surely a little unfair to judge a whole show by one judge (who if what he says is correct is on the CHAPS panel!) The show was extremely well run, and they only didn't split horses & ponies as they thought their coloured numbers would be hit hard by chaps same weekend and so close by - however this was not the case. I think they will split the classes next year and very much doubt woud use the same jusge 2 years in a row!

Hmm..... well, I knew Mr. Jenvey many years ago. He is certainly well-known in New Forest circles and qualified a pony for Olympia - as the rider. He has been involved in show ponies also and has many years experience.
Obviously, a mixed-height class with a ride judge is going to be a problem. Since the ride judge was probably not Mr. J's idea, but someone provided by the show, why condemn him? Awkward situation for all - just hope its sorted next year!!
Mr. Jenvey - if you read this, please pm me!! Would like to say hi after so many years!!
