Im buying my boy his first proper saddle when he comes back from schooling, at the min he is in a WH saddle by the looks of it.
Im going to be showing him as a hunter starting at the end of the season, i want an all round saddle that i can show and hack in. I like a deep seat but i detest GP saddles i dont like the shape. I was thinking maybe buying him a WH saddle as i may have a go at working hunter with him, i like the shape and have knee padding. He is a wide fit and there are quite a few for sale at the min. He moves quite freely in the one he is in at the min, but its the ladies who is schooling him.
Does anyone have any reccomendations on what saddle would be best. Im getting a saddle fitter out but she wants an idea of what to bring.

Depends what shape he is, your saddle fitter should have suggested some that may suit him tbh. I like th straighter cut saddles but with the blocked panels for extra support. My ponies have a curve to their back and my saddler suggests Black country, Harry dabbs. Saddles like Fylde, Native pony, Ideal are very much for flat backed ponies otherwise they bridge.

In my experience horses need flatter trees than you think, though a deeper gusset may be needed to balance a proper wither. I fit for Native Pony and we can fit all sorts of wider shapes - even those with higher narrower withers but a wide flat rear back, one of the trickiest shapes to fit. We have a choice of WH saddles. We do fit very flat trees, though some ride deeper than others, and usually only see bridging when the saddle is too narrow or there is muscle damage.
