our farrier is great never late sometimes turns up when not booked but always good for a laugh, and does a good job of their feet if it was'nt for him and the physio we would no longer have Melly the Moose

Our farrier is great, ok not eye candy but is fab with the horses. I joked on his latest visit if my traditionals feather got in his way while he shod him I could tie it up. He said thats a great idea so the cob now has plaiting bands in feather everytime hes shod. Not a look I think he likes!!!

Our farrier is excellent - he often manages to come out the next day when beastie throws a shoe, and always arrives early, isn't bothered when beast decides to be uncooperative and has done an excellent job with the little sod's feet.

I once had a farrier who you had to book weeks in advance. He was definately not eye candy, but a grumpy ol g...t and never had a pleasant word to say. He would never come out for an emergency neither. That said he was a fantastic farrier and kept my somewhat mardi footed hunter up to the job and I stuck with him till he retired. Oh and if a lost shoe was replaced by another farrier he pulled the workmanship to bits !!!

our farrier is excellent - ok not great eye candy - but great conversationalist! - equally good with the awkward youngsters and the older saints! - careful with those with feather! always come's on time on the right day and will come out, usually same day, for a lost shoe or urgent job! - mind you took us a long time and lot of 'bad uns' before we found him!!

My Farrier is brilliant and easy on the eye as well, we got to know him straight from his Apprenticeship, he is so kind and the worst thing he has ever said when being flung around the yard was " whoa bub ", we love him

I've got a new one coming this Friday evening at 5.30pm (thats a new one on me, usually they've all packed up by 4.30pm at the latest). My last one has let me down three times in the last three weeks, even though he was booked, then said he's come another day, did'nt turn up, then same story last Friday, then had the cheek to text me Sunday eve and ask if anyone was in Monday A.M. I said no, as I'd rung this other guy by then. Cute he may be, but the ponies dont care what he looks like as long as they get their feet done when needed. We've still got a ridden and a youngster going out and I wont take them out with broken or long feet.

Fortunately mine are all barefoot- hardy natives. Back in Surrey we had a super farrier, Will. A couple of years ago, daughter went to the field to catch a mare for shoeing, mare had other ideas and galloped off, daughter landed face down in the mud. In tears she rang Will and told him what had happened and not to come as the mare wouldnt be caught. After the call he was worried about her, so he sent his 'lads' to check she was ok. Picture the scene, one usually attractive 16 year old daughter now covered head to foot in mud, except for two eye holes and then.... the handsome apprentices arrived unexpectedly to check she was ok.... Result, one very embarrassed daughter. Will is a kind patient farrier, often refusing payment for odd shoes that pulled off in the mud or 'overreached off'. Nice ones do exist, they just seem a rare. Perhaps we should have a thread dedicated to 'super farriers' who go beyond the call of duty.

My farrier is superb, quiet with the ponies, always arrives when he says he will and if running late sends a text and does a really good job.

Oh god i am spoilt. My farrier is a star. Always on time, punctual to the last . Will come out at 6 o clock on a sat night if there is a show next day. Patient as a saint with the babies and does an amazing job. Only downside, older guy and no eye candy. I know which I would rather have

My farrier is brilliant - patience of a saint. Our new young lady was bought knowing she was not brilliant to shoe - he spends time with her, doesn't rush and even tho she locked her back legs and couldn't possibly bend at either the hock or the fetlock, so basically he had to finish dressing her feet resting on his foot he never got stressed with her or anything!!Hopefully she will improve given time - she's genuinely frightened as she stood and shook while he was shoeing!

My farrier is great, he's not bad looking for an oldder bloke, always on time, sometimes early, i let him decide how long till the nxt visit and book him back in for nxt time before he leaves and i have to say, everytime, 2 weeks b4 he is due i look at his feet and think if he wasnt already booked in I'd need to be ringing to book him in.
We love Russell!!!!!!!!!

Pigsear - I pull leg warmers over my traditionals feet when they are being shod. Keeps the hair well away from the shoeing process and doesnt irritate the farrier. In the summer I also use tights that have been cut off so only the legs are left and pull them over - works a treat.
