I was at qualifier yesterday with my Daughter. I was very surprised they did not judge the classes off marks. Which I think is unfair. How come for all the other qualifying classes are off marks and these are not! Very odd and unfair I think. As in some cases if a judge likes a certain pony or type of pony it sure to be more favorable uneven if another pony performed better.

I am assuming that PUK haven't changed the criteria since we ran a show 2 years ago with these classes. You had to have two judges and marks. We had two judges, two stewards and an independent person double checked the scores before finalising the placings. (That was our choice but it saves egg on face!!)If that is still the case I would raise it with PUK.

Surely it's the rules to have marks? Ring PUK & complain, & ask how it was possible.

Unlike the other societies you don't get to see any marks after the class and as far as I know there is not a score sheet so you never know which judge's opinion was your downfall! One judge doing conformation and one doing the show, both doing the go round I don't know how the marks are split as we never get to see them - it's all a bit of a mystery !!!

PUK RIHS Junior/Intermediate classes are not judged using a marks system either in the qualifying rounds or the final
However some judges do take "notes" although these will not be displayed.
Perfect - these RIHS classes are for anyone to enter - not for HP only
Karen - they have never been judged using a marks system but some judges do use this form of note taking

Janet, I was stewarding so remember well filling in the scores. It was the first year PUK ran them. Did they not use them that first year? Not questioning you, just wondering why we had them!

Karen - no they didn't although many judges wanted to use marks.
Not sure where you got your sheets from but it wouldn't have been PUK - could the classes have been RIHS M&M BSPS classes (just a thought, again not doubting you used marks) as the qualifiers have not necessarily remained constant with the same shows each year
I stewarded for a few qualifiers including the very first one at the Northern PUK champs & the final at RIHS & also judged one the first year as well as subsequent years When "note taking" in the form of marks sheets was used, it was usually another society's score sheet that was used or paper ruled out specifically. These classes are suggested to be judged in the same way that horse classes use 2 judges ie by discussion between the judges, although particularly in the first year many judges were surprised as they had assumed marks would be used.

Janet, nope definitely PUK as we had all the hoo haa of making sure all ponies were registered with PUK and owners were members on entering!! Possibly the judges wanted them, not sure on that one. Anyway, I think its cleared up the fact that marks aren't always used and I stand corrected on my earlier input

Karen wasn't really trying to correct you if you see what I mean, just explain system so perhaps the OP could see how the classes were judged.
