Hi, this is our 1st year showing with our 4 year old coloured gelding. Previously my daughter mainly did show jumping at our local riding club. I really don't know what my daughter and pony should be wearing, any help would be greatly appreciated!

What classes would you be doing?

I'm not really sure, as I said the world of showing is new to us (quickly finding out it is an expensive one too!!) We will definitely do ridden coloured classes, someone on HG also suggested small riding horse? Thanks

Right, well first of all, what a lovely horse!
Your daughter looks good, although as personal preference I would go for black boots/gaiters. Is her hat navy or black?
Tack wise, I'd go for a more discreet numnah, and if possible a straighter cut saddle, although I appreciate that's an expensive change to make. He does have a lovely front though and a straighter saddle would show that better.
I'd go for a flatter wider noseband on the bridle, possibly with a coloured browband for riding horse classes. Is the horse at a level where you could use a double bridle or pelham?

Thank you! we think he's lovely! I am waiting for an appointment with our local master saddler, unfortunately there is a 6 - 8 week wait. Local level Judge mentioned he needs a more discreet numnah so that is in hand. My daughter's hat is black, she has brown boots on the photo but she does have black ones, so that is an easy swap. Should she wear just jod boots or boots and gaiters or long boots? Also, what colour tweed or should it be a plain navy jacket? Judge suggested a nice red browband, will sort noseband too! I don't think he is ready for a double yet, but we have a lesson with instructor at the weekend so will ask for his opinion. Thank you so much

Long black boots with straight tops and garter straps would be my preference. A coloured browband is correct for RH classes, but should be more discreet than the ones you see on show ponies etc. - not over 'blingy'.
A tweed is correct, colour is down to personal choice, if you have something with a coloured overcheck you could pick up on the same colour with your tie and browband. A navy hat would be better than black, regardless of what colour tweed you choose. Also a minor point, you could buy some dark coloured elastic to thread your number on, make a loop at either end to go around the middle button on your jacket, this will stop the white tape 'cutting her in half'.
You will find in a RH class most will be in doubles or pelhams, but if you think he's not ready for that then stick with what your instructor advises, he's got plenty of time and he's really still a novice at 4.

I was told to put a really bold browband on my coloured and it did make a huge difference, I must stress though bold not blingy....ours was yellowy gold/blue but a nice thick type. Again I agree with Milliesmum a wider noseband would look better. She doesn't appear to be carrying a stick. If they are martingale stoppers on reins cut them off or if you need them for jumping etc have seperate reins for showing if poss. Bear in mind though these are just nit picks!
He and your daughter look fab!
