hello Diane,
I am into both Welsh in hand and the ridden ponies and I feel that the dominant contributors on this site are from the ridden classes.

Don't feel an outcast. We are in handers but fell into the ridden game by default when Blackknight took our C stallion on loan. Since then other lovely folks have also taken our stock into ridden showing. Everyone welcome on here. Enjoy!

I show my A colt in hand. I do ridden ... very badly.... on my cob lol. Need to get to grips with the ridden thing before I get my big boy out. That ridden malarky ... phew it involves so much cleaning and packing before a show. Went out last week to a welsh show and just took the colt ... talk about travelling light!

O.K RIGHT, QUESTION, AS WE ARE ON INHAND TOPIC, ................................. OFTEN BEEN TOLD THAT BIGGER WELSH B'S ARE RIDDEN TYPE, DONT QUITE KNOW HOW THIS IS MEANT, DOES IT MEAN THAT THE BIG RIDDEN WELSHIES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR THE SHOW RING???EH SURELY NOT??? AND THE WINNERS INHAND ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR RIDDEN? ? THAT DONT SEEM RIGHT??? DONT UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS??? WHAT DO YOU LOT THINK OF IT???

we like big b's!!!

Think the problem with the B's is the same as encountered with the C's. As they have an upper height limit of 13.2 then if they are up to height they can be ridden by small adult Doesn't really come in to that with A's I don't think being 12h or under and D's can be anything height wise. I think a good Welshie can do all jobs regardless of height and love to see the same animal at the big shows coming in for different disciplines and succeeding. Read that back...didn't really answer your question

Wish I could have found a 13.2 B when we were looking!

so, its seems that ridden people want bigger??? so why does it seem they are look down upon in the inhand showing??? have often heard said they lose quality/poniness when they are bigger but surely you can have smaller ponies that are "short"(like what i did there?) on quality

we personally like our to be about 12.3 as we find that they have more of a chance of doing other classes ie; Hunter pony as well as the welsh classes, all of our ponies go back to two stallions Eyarth Celebration and Carolinas Purple Emperor, which it turn take you to Keston Royal Occasion and Solway Master Bronze

my new girl is by Topnote and out of Whoopsadaisy who is a grandaughter of Celebration, she s got a predigree that reads like a who s who I think she ll go to about 12.3 maybe 13 at a push.
