have a look on the kennel club website and the German shepherd association website, it will give you an idea of the breed standard, and what to look for in the bit*h before you put your dog to stud.

You need to know what qualities you want in the adult to be able to choose the puppy. If your b*tch is a well bred and health screened girl and going to a reputable male then maybe the owner of the stud dog would help you choose your puppy. Have you considered that you may not get any show quality puppies in your litter? Breeding is never an exact science. Have you considered purchasing a show quality puppy instead as then the breeder will be able to guide you both in your choice and in the show ring.

I agree with showpony about buying a show pup instead of trying to breed. Even if you put 2 good parents together you still may not get a show quality pup. When I was looking for pup to show ( Boxer ) A breeder who's dogs I really liked had a litter due, as she wasn't intending to keep a pup herself she offered me the pick of the litter. When they were born there were 7 lovely pups but none were show quality Breeding is a real lottery!!!!

Sorry, but I agree with the last two posters. To be brutally honest it is highly unlikely that you are going to get a top quality bit*h to your dog unless he is of show quality and has had all the relevant health screening (ie. hip scoring, eye testing) etc. Therefore you would have to be extremely lucky to get a show dog from what would essentially be a pet litter. You would be much better off buying a show quality puppy from a reputable breeder. With GSDs you also need to look at the type you want, do you prefer the heavier 'English' style, the German type or something in between. I know breeders who can spot potential in a very young pup and have 'an eye for a dog', but likewise I know others who never seem to pick the 'right one'. It's not something you can pick up from just viewing one litter. I honestly hope I haven't offended you and wish you lots of luck, have fun finding your puppy.
