Hi just wondering what all of your preferences are as i don't know what to buy for my (fingers crossed) soon to be working/show hunter...your opinions would be a great help...

My personal preference is: pelham for open classes (unless pony has enough room in it's mouth for a double) and a magic snaffle/wilkie for novice classes.

I prefer seeing the novice ponies and childs ridden ponies in the simple snaffles and then in doubles if the horses mouth allows it in the classes with the older riders who generally have more experience.,

Snaffles, wilkies, magic wilkies for novices and LR, FR ponies and pelhams or doubles for open ponies

I like Pelhams, I also like seeing ponies in a simple snaffle or a wilkie. x

I do both of those and for show hunter I either have a pelham or snaffle (wilkie) just my pony sometimes finds the pelham too strong and starts to grab it and run and we find the wilkie works better when hes in one of those moods. It all depends on your pony as mine will school fine in a wilkie and cavesson noseband at shows but for jumping he has to have grackle and martingale along with a tom thumb as he gets so excited!

Pelham, because their softer than doubles+you dont need a double unless the horse is very strong anyway. (my opinion)

(my opinion) I always thought doubles were less severe myself, as there are two bits you aren't constantly on the curb whereas with a pelham you are. Novice classes simple snaffle if possible, open classes a bog standard double ( I say bog standard as I see quite a lot of ponies with the bradoon as a wilkie) Sent from my LT26i using proboards

A nice bog standard snaffle for a Novice's and for Open ponies if they prefer it. If I wanted two reins I would use a double and ride purely off the snaffle rein. Not really a fan of a pelham for schooling or flatwork, they don't give very refined aids and don't differentiate enough between the snaffle and curb rein for my liking.
