Now you've sorted my stables could anyone advise me on acceptable hunter showing boots - are Regent a good leather? Fylde have them in a sale at the moment so about half usual price. Any experiences please? Many thanks Kelly

Regent boots are gorgeous. I had a pair which I loved but sadly my calves are too fat for them now so I gave them to my niece and they are still fab and in show ring condition and they are 36years old

regent boots are good but are traditional hard leather and take ages to break in.

I've got the Regent boots and think they're fab. But Compeed blister plasters are a must for the first few outings!
I also replaced the garter straps as I thought the ones they supplied were a bit thin and cheapy looking.
What size boot are you?

Thank you very much for advice. Do you know I did look at Regents and they were lovely but did look very hard and shiney - as I'll probably only do about 5 showing classes a year I think it will take me a REALLY long time to break them in!
I'd be a five and half feet size with a 'normal' leg (I think! Whatever that means!) I did get some second hand boots but they're a bit short - I don't want to let the horses down any more than necessary with my appearance alone! I think I'll take a trip to Calcutt's at Sutton Scotney this week if I can and see what they can offer.

I've had my Regent boots for 28 years and they are still good and comfortable as I first worn them [/img]

Thank you! Looks like Regents it is then ... would you only use boot polish or might you use saddle oil if they start off a bit hard? They look very smart on Wiltshire Man!

I started with plenty of saddle soap and Effax (leather balm) to soften them which really helped. Now I just tidy up with boot polish before a show to get a shine.

they are leather lined so feed the inside with leather feed to help soften them, also found standing on stairs and dropping heels ove and over helped

Thank you Kelly I wouldn't use oil or saddle soap or they will go too soft which will make them go flob which has happen to mine as they usually stay top close to my knee but now flob to below knee as you can see around my ankle it all wriggle, shame isn't

need to buy them slightly to long in the leg and use heel risers as they will drop a good inch or 2 when broken in
