Just a question I've had on my mind for a while!
Do you think they should be allowed? Why? I think they should be if a pony is happy in it and the rider knows how to ride in it! However when the pony does not go forward in the bit and can tell its not happy I think it shouldn't be allowed
So what are your views on this matter? Ps meant to put show ring instead of showering in the question!

Oops I just pressed the wrong button! That was s'pose to be a Yes, not a No Every bit has a purpose (although there are a few exceptions, I'm thinking more along the lines of SJ'ing).

Don't like them personally, however, have seen them used well in correct hands so yes I think they should be allowed

If the pony is happy and goes well in it, then yes. I know several that are happy in a swales and go lovely in it, after trying countless bits and doubles.

I don't like the bits to be perfectly honest & wouldn't use them - however, if the pony is comfortable in it, (more so than a Pelham, Double, Snaffle, etc) & the rider is not 'harsh' using the bit, I think they should be acceptable in the show ring.

I think swales should only be used by experienced and knowledgeable riders. If this bit was used by a rider who is hard on the hand or doesn't know what they are doing then it can be dangerous :/

To be honest, every pony is different; some go perfectly well in a snaffle, some don't. Same with doubles-some go well, some don't like the feel of two bits. It's down to the rider's discretion whether it is used in the ring, and as long as the pony is happy and goes well, then it IS "acceptable".

hmm hard for a snaffle to be 'dangerous' in the wrong hands. Swales are very severe bits unlike snaffles. I think if your pony is happy with a bit then use it by all means. My pony loves going in a waterford snaffle so thats what i ride him in because he likes it. Its just like us having our favourite pair of slippers that we always like to put on cos they're comfy

I dont have anything against swales, aslong as it is used correctly.
