I have a welsh d 14.2 horse. I am a complete novice and will not be clipping my horse. But need some help in knowing what weight rug to use.
I have now put him in meduim weight in and out of stable and woundering what rug i use for winter in the stable.
As he is always rugged so wont get his full coat through but dont want hm to be too hot or cold.

Think it depends on your horse... both mine have 450g rugs on at the moment and there not clipped yet.

My section D is only in a lightweight rug at the moment, don't think it is cold enough yet for a medium weight rug, I don't normally put a heavy weight on her until around January/February when the temperatures are dropping to minus. But as Martinetaylor02 says its down to the individual horse

You will here lots and lots of different ways of doing things and usually no-one is 100% right - there are just lots of ways that suit different people and different horses. Mine are all still out unrugged except for one who has a lightweight on. He'll be clipped this weekend and a MW put on. Some people have success in preventing as much winter coat by using rugs, others will say it is only light that prevents the coat from growing. It's very much about you working out what suits you and (more importantly) your horse but it's not always easy to ignore those around you
