hi what is a contact meant to feel like? i have a 5 year old, and shes quite heavy at times, is this normal for a baby thats learning shes only been broken 2 months xx

they are all different when im working in i dont ask for a contact for the first few mins , when i take up the contact he may be a little heavy in hand but as soon as he excepts it he gets quiet light. for a young pony just ask her to come into an outline for short periods gradually building it up and she builds up her muscles and becomes more supple . lots of walk to trot -trot to walk transitions , and circles help to soften.

hi what is a contact meant to feel like? i have a 5 year old, and shes quite heavy at times, is this normal for a baby thats learning shes only been broken 2 months xx She sounds like she is hanging on you and relyng on you to hold her up, I would suggest that you get an instructor that can help you with schooling your mare on as she has only been backed for a couple of months a good instructor will advise you on what working from behind feels like, if she is coming up from behind correctly she would feel light in your hands, but if you are just pulling her head in then she will feel heavy

hi thanks for replying im in the process of moving to a better yard and then im going to get a proper dressage trainer in and i keep asking her then letting go so she doesnt rely on me as much, shes alot better just still relying on me. i give her a walk trot and canter loose rein with a light contact before we go into proper contact trainingxx
