I'm looking at buying a catering trailer but unsure what to specialise in, when you are showing what food do you crave most....... the usual burgers, chips, bacon and sausage butties etc........ or hot roast pork, homemade pie and peas and mugs of homemade soup? I don't want to go to the hassle of creating everything from scratch if all folk want is burgers and trays of chips All opinions appreciated x

Personally it is something I can eat. I have an egg intolerance and it usually means all foods cooked at shows (as listed above ) are off limits, either they contain egg or they cook eggs on the griddle. I would love home made soups etc in winter, roast pork etc but suspect the good old burger will win the day.
Good luck with the enterprise.

well at least the trailer and staf are clean then i'll have whatever unlike the food today and most days at three counties showground. i walked up for a drink and looked and the people and trailer and felt sick with the throught of getting something from there and just had to walk away disgraceful i think! p.s the hot roast pork and homemade pies are a good idea cause when your at shows both days of the weekend most weekends you get bored of eatting the same old, chips, burgers, bacon and sausage baps. pasties could begood too as long as it's not to exspensive xx

Jacket potatoes with a selection of home made fillings and salad?
Would be nice to have something that isn't fried.

Excellent! Thanks very much for all the replies, its good to know that people feel that there is room for improvement in show day catering. My plan is to cater for those who struggle to find an option when out for the day, so gluten free, vegetarian, and dairy free will ALWAYS feature on the menu!

Oh and with regards the expense, everything I feasibly can will be made from scratch, with a lot of stuff being grown in my garden so you won't have to pay through the nose for the privilege!

Nice salad boxes, decent sandwiches made with nice bread and good quality fillings, jacket potatoes that are oven cooked not microwaved (yuk), perhaps little homemade pizza pieces that are not soggy and greasy...

Jacket potatoes, pizza (the pizza stand at equifest always has a huge queue ) home made cakes would be amazing and also like the pies idea though maybe pastry slices would be easier to eat

Veggie stuff!!
At Pen istone Agri show the longest queue by FAR was the veggie food van. At one show down south I managed to get a halloumi, red onion and rocket pitta bread and it was heaven to have something other than chips!!!
Jackets deffo

I can not eat any dairy products so always have to take my own food, so any salads or milk alternatives like rice dream so I could have a coffee would win my vote

My dad is coeliac and really, really, struggles - after 5 days at the Highland he has always ended up eating something he shouldn't, as there is so little choice, and is always ill after. Everything either seems to come in bread, or batter! Chips are a problem too because they are usually fried in the same frier as battered/breadcrumbed things, so are contaminated. Jacket potatoes would be good!

I went to Aintree International Arena on Sunday for the showjumping and had a pleasant suprise at the cafe when I discovered they offered jacket potatoes ;D I get really fed up with the usual burger and chips, sausage and chips, bacon and chips, cheesy chips that are normally on offer. I have managed to lose 2 stone in the last 3 months and the normal fatty offerings dont help
