I would like to show my dartmoor in hand this season a bit, but have a problem with what to wear. I have a 9 week old baby, and without wishing to be too crude, until I stop feeding him, which won't be until September at the very earliest, there is no way I can get into my hacking jacket or a button up shirt. I did try on the hacking jacket of a large man I know, and although it did just button up over my chest, it looked completely ridiculous as it then hung straight down about 8 inches out from my tummy. My dad's shirts might fit, but the collar would be way too big for a tie.
Is there any alternative to a hacking jacket, shirt and tie that is considered acceptable? I am used to showing highlands where there is a much bigger variation in handler's clothing!

Why not wear a waistcoat instead?

You could wear a tank-top type sweater over a white blouse or collared t-shirt. That way you could buy a larger sized tank top to fit? I think that would look smart enough with a hat, maybe a neck scarf and smart trousers.

With Dartmoors it's pretty standard to wear a tweed jacket :/ not really any help or the answer you're looking for I'm afraid. What level showing are you looking to do?

I have 2 highlands and wear a waistcoat & a cream shirt with frill on the collar and the sleeves, I got it from Janet at Le Beau Cheval, I hate wearing a full jacket, and a tie, I can't move properly, I feel much better in the waistcoat and the shirt looks lovely:-)

I don't own a showing jacket as my daughter tends to do most of the showing for me. However, seem as she has gone away to College I have started showing our Dartie myself, and seen as I don't want to spend a lot of money on a jacket until I shed a pound or two..... I wear a gilet with a shirt and tie and smart cords and my pony has always done well. Go for what makes you comfortable at the moment ad you would be able to show your pony better without worrying about wardrobe malfunctions!
We are also more used to showing Highlands!!

Well I have an outfit sorted and I think (hope!) it looks OK - cream cords (99p ebay - result!), a blue and white shirt which I can wear with the collar open and a neck scarf, and a navy gilet - it is rather snug, but luckily it is stretchy so doesn't gape. And a hat.
Showing highlands is so much simpler, not that I can fit into my tartan culottes at the moment anyway.
