Could someone clarify the NPS Novice WHP rule for the qualifying rounds. I thought that once you had qualified HOYs or RIHS you could no longer do NPS Novice WHP - or is this just at the finals at the NPS Champs?

Not to have qualified Hoys or RI before 1st January in the current year

Thanks. I knew you would know the NPS rules - I could not put my hand on the rule book and Suffolk catalogue had said not to have qualified in previous or current year. I am easily confused!

According to page 41 of 2012 rulebook:
M&M NOV WHP
rule a) iv) Qualified for an M&M WHP final at HOYS or RIHS in previous years or in the current year

So the ponies at Suffolk that had qualified for RIHS should not really have done Novice then under NPS rules?

Not if they'd qualified in previous years. If they had qualified this year only then they are still allowed to do the novice.

after getting clarifiaction from the NPS office direct about a month ago, I was informed that if you have qualified for the RIHS or Hoys this year - you can not compete in the novice classes this year either. Rules do state " or in the current year " so no you can not compete in novice whp classes if you have qualifed for the RIHS or Hoys. Hope that makes sense

Charliefox that is also how I understood the rules to be - and it does say in the current rule book: rule a) iv) Qualified for an M&M WHP final at HOYS or RIHS in previous years or in the current year So I guess the ponies Oliver2 is talking about at Suffolk should not have done the Novice class but too late now to do anything about it !

forester - as far as I am aware - no you can not compete at novice final if you qualify for HOYS/RI before the novice final - sounds very harsh two water trays in a starter stakes class - surprised the judge was happy - as it is down to the judge who has the final decision that they are happy with the course for the class they are judging
