Make the best of it, I used to pick up my son from playschool on the back of my tb mare, ride across the forest, with dog following, down a bridleway, across the A5, along the A5, cross back again to the stable, put the horse away and drive the dog and son home.
Imagine doing that in this era, you would be picked up by a police car and the child would be put into what they laughingly call 'care'.
Our son is happy with his own family now on the other side of the world. Once when I enquired if he had ever suffered from bullying, he replied that after growing up in an equine family, nothing could faze him or make him afraid. After all, he said he had grown up around the knees of some mighty animals, so what could a mere human do to him?
You are definitely on the right track with your family.
