Don't shoot me for this but in my honest opinion if you don't know what tack a pony should wear and how to fit a bridle I wouldn't see it as wise to be breaking a pony in without professional assistance..........

hi, I appreciate what you say smurff however i was just looking for advice on the bits too use as it is a forum site i believe people can offer their advice to others. At no point have i said that i dont know how to fit a bridle infact you have probally intereperated what i have said diffrently...i didnt say we were backing the pony ourself either. dubhshee thank you for that you sound like you know what you are doing. The pony we are looking to get has been bitted before would anyone suggest using anything different? thanks

I started mine off in a NS starter bit and to be honest she is still in it.
I think it depends on the indivdual horse / pony; some like links some don't. I have never had to use one with keys and never had any problems with their mouths

Ive used a simple loose ring or eggbutt snaffle in all the babies I have broken without bein patronising I would thoroughly recommend having some help if it is your first breaker. I hope the advice has helped and I wish you the best of luck with your new pony x Also smurffx, she was only asking for a bit of advice, your comments did come across as being a bit ars*y and everyone has to learn some time.

Well I'm sure I'm not the only one with the same views - and it's nothing to do with me so no i have no reason to be "ars*y" take it as you like.... Ans she asked for advice and I told her my opinion, unfortunately not everyone will have the same views so you have to prepare for that when posting on a forum.
