Has anyone made this? I am making some from the recipe on the Burns dog food site because the latest revelation about what is in tinned dog food (aborted foetus' for example) is just too much. I have to say the mixture 1/3 brown rice, 1/3rd chicken and fish and 1/3rd vegetables doesnt look as if it will be very appetising to a dog - especially my fussy Bordeer Terriers. Trouble is if you put say Marmite in it then you would be giving the dogs too much salt. If anyone had any experience of home made dog food I would be pleased to hear from you.

Tinned dog food containes all sorts of hideous things such as bits of chickens feet and feathers and all the bits that even Tesco cant put in its beefburgers. There can be such things as aborted calves and so on. There is also a high percentage of sugar in most tinned dog food and in treats. This is why dogs get dental decay these days which they never did years ago when they were fed scraps and bones. I made the Bruns receipe and my dogs loved it. We worked out that it cost approximately half as much as tinned and even fussy Poppy wolfed it down. Im now on a crusade to ban tinned dog food!! Go on the Burns site and see what the vet has to say about tinned food!

I did for a long time feed my German Sheps on boiled chicken and rice, this was after months of them having the trots and every " dog food " we tried made things worse, they loved it and there was never any left

I have always refused to feed my dogs tinned dog food as it smells so vile.Mine get a mix of fresh meat and complete dry dog food. When feeding nearly a dozen hounds meal times have to be quick and clean

I buy an ox heart from the Butcher once a week, total cost £1.80. The dog is medium sized and in perfect health, after 7 years he has never needed the vet. Dogs are designed to eat meat and that is all. Has anyone noticed that tinned dog food is 80% water? Expensive water!!!

I was speaking to the lady on the Burns stand at Lowther Show. She asked if we used their product. I mentioned that we had, but felt it was rather expensive especially if feeding it to more than one dog. We used it and thought it was a good product, but ours eventually went off it completely. I have made them chicken and rice, and a variety of other meaty things.
Interestingly daughter feeds her two JR's raw mince, and I have never seen dogs looking better! I think it's raw meat they need!

I have now started feeding my cat home made food too. Cats need more protein - and she leaves the rice but she is 33 years old (yes you did read that right) and hs been vomiting a bit lately. Since changing her diet she hs not been sick once.
