My pony is quite forward going and very well schooled. I ride her in a pelham and she mouths and loves that bit, but its putting so much pressure on her she is hesitating to move forwars. Im unsure what to do as she is a strong pony 14.2, and shes a hunter built well. Do i change her bit, although she likes this one and its hard to find a bit she likes any help would be very much appriciated thanks in advance x

I'm not sure I understand. The pony likes the bit but she doesn't go forwards into it? If a pony's not moving forward to take the contact then I wouldn't say that they like it, but that they're backing off it. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. The only pressure the bit is putting on is from the rider, maybe a lighter contact is needed? How is she if you ride only from the snaffle rein?
Have you tried her in a french link Loose ring snaffle? She may be strong, but often ponies put in a milder bit become less strong as they don't have so much to fight. Have a chat with your instructor, they're the best person to ask.

Iv tried her in a snaffle she just does not listen and rejects it. I am quite light in my hands, even when asking for her head, I only lightly sponge. I ride with the top rein and the bottom rein I leave loose. She works well in the bit, forms a shape, has a lovely walk and canter its a trot that's the issue its as soon as she goes any faster than a slow trot she breaks canter. I'm going to see what the yard instructor says, but thought is ask for advice here first. By all means I'm clueless on bits. Im just not sure what to do?
Thankyou x

I think I understand. All we can really give on here are suggestions as we can't see the pony or the way of going, an instructor can give you advice much more focussed on your own problems.
I'm interpretting from your post that the pony is backing off the bit. I'm a snaffle girl myself and don't really like other bits for general schooling, I use a variety of snaffle's for mine and each has their own preffered sort. So I would put her in a simple snaffle to start with (I tend to start with a lozenge or french link) and concentrate and working her in quite a relaxed outline, especially on her working through over back, thinking forward as opposed to in an outline.
I take it there aren't any physical issues the saddle has been checked, teeth are good and back is sound?

Perhaps she would be happy in a snaffle with the same mouthpiece (not action) of the pelham you use?

Totally agree with GG. Your pony does 'not' like a bit if she is not going forwards. Forwards is the very first basic and the pelham is preventing it. She isn't strong, she needs schooling.

i think you need to use more leg, to get her working more energetically from behind and if she is still hesitating then take her out of the bit as it may be poll pressure she is resenting.
im a little unsure how your pony can be forward going and well schooled but also strong and hesitating ?!
how long have you had the pony?
