hi guys come to have a little moan about judging!
it really bugs me when you pay your entry fees & the judge isnt event watching you and is more interested in whats going on in the ring next door!
she didnt watch any of the horses in my class all to which misbehaved at some point in there shows.....
how can a judge judge whats infront of them if they arnt watching!
grrrrr annoys me as its money wasted when clearly they arnt interested
does anyone else come across this? xx

the judging at the Part bred arab at the Gt. Eccleston Show was appalling. Judge didnt look like she wanted to be there, she was rude, and rode terrible. Her final placings was beyond a joke!!! Where do they get these judges from.

I agree with you 100%. I think it's really rude. I had a judge once who didn't look at half the class at all, pulled about 10 in & told the stewards to let the other 10 just 'come in'. Even if you don't like the other ponies, at least watch them, people have payed their money to be JUDGED not IGNORED! It's just manners.

I have been 'lucky' enough to have this only happen once. It was a large M&M class. The first 5 were pulled in and the rest of us just had to line up. On the go round, I was boxed in, overtaken in front of the judge. And it was those offenders in the top 5. The individual shows were watched to 7th or 8th, from then on the judge lost interest more and more, my show came and she had her back to me from the moment I trotted past her. My none horsey OH even said we should complain as she had her back to me throughout. Eyes in the back of her head??? I don't think so.

I saw this happen at a show a few years back and the child ( about 14 ) just stopped.
She waited until the judge realised the next pony hadnt come out of line and turned around to look at her and then resumed her show. I think the judge was so embarressed she didnt take her eyes off the rest of the class!!!!
There was even a ripple of applause from the ringside!!!

I agree, it leaves you very flat when the judge doesnt bother to watch you. I am currently do my probationary judging and I hope in the future I dont turn into one of these lazy judges. We all pay our money, the least we ask is to be given the time of day to show our horses. My pet hate is judges that dont give any feedback or a well done, even to the people who dont get a rosette. How else are people meant to learn or improve!

I was at a working hunter show and my small 13.2hh got a clear round in 75cm - he was the smallest in the class with 15hh+ and there was about 15 or so in for the go round/show and the judge pulled in top 5, carried on pulling the rest in and just left me walking round and then asked the pulled in 1st to start their show! I just had to presume that I was at the end! When it actually came to my show, fair enough my pony was naughty, but she wasn't even watching me so I didn't really see the point in trying to pull it off!!

I think it extremely rude for a judge not to watch each and every individual competitor....only a few weeks ago I was spectating at a county show and was completely horrified to witness a conformation judge yakking away to his steward and totally ignoring his competitors - this was a HOYS qualifying class for goodness sake! Dreadful for showing.......I couldn't help but think that perhaps someone might just care to video that sort of behaviour so that the powers that be could get evidence to back up any complaint!

I know that some will come on and say that they are watching (they just don't look like it?!) but I can tell you this does happen, in fact to us, this week. The judge just didn't watch our pony's show much at all. A lot of the time she was watching what was going on in the ring next door and/or talking to the steward.. Admittedly, this was the same class as there were two judges and the shows took place outside the main ring. This isn't sour grapes, the pony went well, but its their perogative not to like it. BUT PLEASE WATCH the whole show!!! We all pay the some money, we all have to qualify. We all deserve this politeness.

I suggest every judge who does not watch is reported to their panel.

Went to a show last weekend, first show for my 4yr old son and his welsh A pony, lead-rein equitation class was a joke! Loads of the ponies not trotting, kids yanking the bits in their mouth, etc. My sons little pony went beautifully and my little lad did really well with his rising trot. We got pulled in last, even after someone who's pony literally didnt trot the whole individual show and the mother was dragging it round (also leading on the wrong side!). I was shocked...when i asked the judge why we got pulled in last she said "your little boys legs are not quite long enough yet to push the pony on" !!!!!! The pony did not once go back to walk as she responds to his feet wiggling!!! Officially hate showing!!!! Rant over lol

Showing is too expensive now not to be watched.
I don't mind where I come as long as the horse has gone well and I felt we have done our best, but it can be so frustrating when after the first few no one else gets the full attention.
The worst i've ever been in was about 9 years ago at a championship show. If the judge didn't like your pony you were sent out of the ring and given your finalist rosette as you were half way through your show when you passed the entrance. Thankfully I have never seen this since but quite a few of the younger competitors were most upset. If you have earned your right to be there and paid your entry fee, you deserve to be watched during your show from beginning to end
