My friend has asked me to help her get ready to show her 6 year old fell gelding in hand, and I have got her kitted out with suitable clothes, but am not sure about the pony. The FPS website says adult geldings may wear white halters, and that stallions and colts should wear leather bridles or halters, but it doesn't say if it is OK for geldings to be shown in hand in a bridle? We are not looking to spend any money, she hasn't shown in hand before, and even if she does enjoy it it is likely to only be once a year, so really need to make do with what's in my tack room! Would this bridle, worn here by a two year old highland, be acceptable? It would have his normal riding snaffle on it. And if it is, leather lead or white rope? Thanks in advance!

thats fine , but id go for a darker coloured lead or leather if poss . i always use a newmaket chain attachment for inhand i dislike leads attached directly to the bit rings . i suppose its personal preferance as long as the handler is smart and the pony is turned out well

we show our fell gelding in his double bridle that he is ridden in as he is of ridden age

That's a nice bridle Louise and similar to the one I use to show my 2 year colt. Leather lead rein is standard as opposed to a white lead rope (which I can still not get my head round as I would need a new one each time it would be so filthy, lol)

I just unloop the rope off the metal clip, then put the rope in the washing machine! The above pony was a chewer, there was no way he was getting anywhere near my leather lead rein, but I think the fell in question will be fine with it!

Agreee with the above, the bridle looks fine. I prefer to see geldings in a bridle as a pose to a white halter. But its all down to personal preference.
