Was out on a hack tonight and came across two kids on a quad in a field. Now these kids were about ten years old and unsupervised on this quad bike. Rather than waiting for us to get past them and out the way they just sped up right past us which sent me and my welsh C flying up the road as we are not keen on quads etc. (the field was running parallel to the lane we were on) Now I understand that on private land kids can go on quads etc but they also had some sort of gun (I presume it had either blanks or was just for pellets of some description) which was also not helping the situation. If these were your kids would you let them go unsupervised on a quad bike with a gun next to a public lane? Perhaps it's just me

are you sure it wasnt a bb gun....? i have to be honest and say yes i would let them but if i found out they didnt slow down for a horse and have some common sense i would have gone mad....is there a farm house.....have a quiet word with the parents and say that its a well used lane for equines and the children should be taught to have some consideration

Not sure about the gun as was more concerned about keeping hold lol
The house is down a really long private road so not sure if it is gated but I might try having a word.
I now he needs to get used to quads but not sure this is the right way to go about it...

I could really let go in repsonse here, but I;m too scared!
In all honesty though, no. I would not let kids mess about on a quad unspervised, nor would i let them ride with a gun - BB or not, its telling them its ok to ride with a gun. Its not.
I'm a farmers wife, we have quads and guns. Our quads are always padlocked up and there is a strict policy on the farm that none of the kids -seven cousins - are allowed on it unsupervised, not even messing. A quad will flip quickly and easily ridden badly or too fast on the wrong ground. Public road or not, if there was accident, how long till someone came by.....
Our friends son was lucky someone passed by - he was messing on a quad and flipped it - airlifted out. He broke three ribs, both arms, a leg, factured spine, ruptured spleen and kidney and punctured both lungs. Mad and stupid
ooooppp I got going - sorry
In terms of guns.... Irresponsible behaviour with guns is something which really riles me. Fully appreciate in this instance it perhaps wasn't a rifle or shotgun, but it is not teaching those kids safe gun use.
Apologies if I've offended anyone!n - just my opinion

It was on Primrose Hill in Mellor, Blackburn.

Mellor used to be a quiet safe village for hacking but like anything time changes! People fly through the village with no consideration for kids, horses or anything else and it's quite scary on the main road through (when I say main road, it's a small village main road). As for the kids on quads, you need to find out who they belong to as it's just dangerous frightening ponies. All it takes is a little bit of thought and consideration for others, and then they can carry on zooming around the field unsupervised to their hearts content. Is this not what parents teach their kids any more!..... I stopped hacking up Primrose and Sacary years ago as it's just too dangerous these days.
