Tweed (ideally no velvet collar), shirt and tie, cream/beige breeches, long boots, spurs, cane. Plain leather bride, double ideally, plain numnah and girth. Plait. Pulled tail. Ummmmm! I think thats the basic covered.... Show a good gallop!

I think thats the basic covered.... Show a good gallop! Excellent - and - if I may add - the animal must give a good, mannerly but positive ride (in all four gears) - and stand square, walk straight and trot straight back to the judge for the 'in hand' part. Make sure you have a good well fitting COMFORTABLE saddle with stirrups large enough for a gent (if your judge is such) and leathers long enough to go down for longer legs (or up, if the judge is a diminutive lady!) Check the stitching of all your tack. A neat GP saddle would be perfectly acceptable at this stage; comfort for horse, ride judge and you as the showman, is SO important. Good luck, I hope you find a venue which isn't submerged in water! Above all else, enjoy.

Thanks for your replies. Caroline, yes, most of our ground is submerged - I wonder if they'll let me borrow swimming armbands for my boy?!? Hopefully it'll dry up for next weekend. He's only just five & it's his first show so I just hope they'll cut us some slack because of that. He's a real gentlemen with four stunning paces & impeccable manners, so hopefully they'll just see that! I don't really mind about places etc, it's just about the enjoyment & experience as he's a baby. He's normally & an angel, turns his hoof to anything, so I just have to hope he takes it all in his stride. fruity, thanks for all that, I think I got it all of it, except I don't wear spurs on him yet just because he is so young. Hope everything goes to plan & thanks again, DGP

Ta anyway, DGP
