I don't know who if anyone on here was caught in in the debacle of parking their lorry on Sunday afternoon prior to the 5pm deadline If anyone was maybe they would care to join me in writing to the RWAS to complain. Ours was the lorry that sank and had to be towed off all of an hour after arriving having being parked on the grass. All because some jobsworth refused to allow the log to be moved allowing access to the hard standing until 5pm. By this time horses were stood for over an hour trying to gain access onto the ground due to the tailback. I know someone had an issue with this and the heat after having horses on board for over 12 hours (they were given water folks don't panic) As I said I intend to write to them to say their attitude to the situation was no more than jobsworth, what difference di the hour make lorrys Anyone else like to join me?

I thought it was disgusting that you all had to wait so long in that heat. We went down early hours Saturday and got parked quickly but anyone would think the parking attendants were god! They can't possibly be horsey, no one in their right minds would leave horses standing on lorries in that searing heat because "they can't move the log until the supervisor says so" !!!

I saw this happening....it was chaos. Felt so sorry for all you guys caught up in it and the poor horses having to wait needlessly in that heat. Slightly off track but I am in mind to write to complain about the atrocious ladies showers. There are only 6 in the main block and 2 were out of order on Saturday when we arrived. Wednesday there was only 1 and that was cold/boiling with nothing in between. They really do treat us very badly

I found shower no.2 was great! After getting undressed 3 times to only find they were broken i stumbled across No.2 and waited for that one everyday!
I think if they just had pre set temps they wouldn't be so tempremental and break so easily. have to say though, they weren't as dirty as i thought they would be!

i used the showers in the block near Newydd Henllan & the grocery shop. They were quiet, clean(ish!) and had a decent jet of warm water, worth the long walk from horse hill! Arrived at 6pm sunday and parked no problem, was prewarned about traffic jam. Did decide not to unload at the stables though, lorry park seemed to fill very quickly on sunday this year.

This is an age old issue the Lorry Parking has been completly wrong at the RWAS for donkeys years! the lower lorry park next to stable blocks (with its log debarcle) i was told by a parking attendant was apparently preferential parking... so why was our lorry pass exactly the same as every other vehicle pass I saw on that block stating "horse vehicle pass" !! nothing about preferential parking.. so how come spaces were being saved / resevered etc it happens year on year. Surely its like most things first come first served!! entry fees/ stable fees /extra parking pass fees/ caravan fees they all add up and everyone pays the same.... I see the parking stewards made a few healthy tips for parking some lorries very convieniently that week.... and as for leaving the lorries cue up in the immense heat that day someones head should roll!!

Write to Ben Williams as he seems to know about everything every time I have had cause to contact RWAS. Also, David Walters is the Chief Executive Officer of the RWAS and is responsible for the supposedly smooth running of the show. For many years the Royal Welsh has caused me to swear I will never go "to That Show" again, and this has mainly been due to lorry parking, stables already being occupied when we get there, filthy and unsanitary conditions of the loos and showers and the "you can't argue with me" attitude of certain of the security staff. We do pay through the nose to attend this show and there is, without doubt, a certain amount of preferential parking, particularly where certain of the larger Welsh studs and producers are concerned. Nevertheless, no-one twists our arms behind our backs to make us attend and only by people writing in to complain will something be done about the unsatisfactory conditions. With regard to the log not being moved and the welfare of the horses on board the lorry, the supervisor's head should roll and he/she should certainly not be in that position next year. Find out who was organising the parking, get his/her name and then name and shame to RWAS and on this forum.

I was stuck in the queue on the Sunday afternoon and I have to admit I did get really annoyed and was further aggravated by the fact that two teenage stewards were walking up and down going into everyone's lorries to make sure they had ponies on board. I think to check that ponies matched with passports is fine but to check if you had ponies on board in case you were just coming for a jolly?! What if I'd come empty to take a pony home that was with a producer for example, so had paid my entries, would they have turned me away?

so far has I'm concerned the Royal welsh is one of the worse shows on the circuit, unless you show a welsh you are treated as a second class citizen, no common sense is shown regarding the horse ring, despite the fact that there is a gate near there you still have to walk all of the way up the hill to go back down. The measuring pad is situated in a really noisy area which means that the ponies are very up-tight and to round it off is the blessed parade! You get run over by cob stallions waiting to get into the ring, it takes a good hour to queue, then once you get into the ring you are likely to get run over by a bull or get a quad bike ridden up and down behind you, just to top things off when you do get to walk past the stand, even if you have won your class, unless you have a welsh pony they don't bother to give your or the ponies name yet if you have a welsh breed they give out the life history of every animal out there. They allow pushchairs and bikes into the stabling area, oh and everyone seems to know who is going to win what at least a year before the show takes place. Not to mention the fact that it is located in one of the most inaccessible areas of the country.
Run out of puff now, you may have gathered that I don't like my local show!

thinks Bendy Wendy.. not my nickname and I wasn't going to ask! might pick a showman I admire so am reluctant to say his name. But a clue, wears a grey bowler to judge in and favours mares.

It is cheaper to enter a horse and get the passes than it is to just buy the passes, so to stop people doing that they check. We went down on Tuesday morning and weren't stopped and checked though... It also says all horseboxes need a fire extinguisher (with certificate), fire alarm and all horseboxes to have a 3m or 6m clearance between each! Pretty sure all horseboxes were illegally parked though!! ;D

Luckily we were stabled at Wern Fawr and boy what a lovely place, nice and quiet, aobout 10ft between each lorry and enough space to put tent etc up. Lovely girl called Sarah running the stables and she couldn't do enough for you, plenty of straw, forage available at all times, and generally such a lovely place, so on Weds morning was adviced to get to the show at 5am!!! which we did, and boy what a shambles, no one guiding us where to go, luckily we managed to not get stuck and found a quiet place in a field. Then was a I shocked was meeting a friend who was plaiting the pony up at 6.30 and walked towards her stable I'm sure some of those lorries could barely open their living doors as they were so close, would not like to think what would have happened if one caught fire, the whole blooming lot would go up in a bang, there were welsh stallions being run up and down the stables and men making unbelievable noises to wind them up, pure blooming dangerous as I had the little girls with me and a pony who had never seen such a thing in his life!!!!!! IF and that's a big IF we go next year, we will stay in Wern Fawr and hope to hell that we can park same place at the showground next year, and make sure we don't go near the stables at the showground

I do hope that you have written in with your complaints, the comittee are in the main unaware of the conditions of horse hell, and there are not many complaints to bring the horse area up the agenda. I'm sure that you can provide some much needed advice to the power that be about how they could make the event nicer for us competitors.
