What would you show my 3 year old mare as? Would you trim all feathers off, pull mane forelock, plait up and show as a show pony. Would you prefer to leave her natural and what classes would you enter her in? I am hoping to go to my first show on Sunday, I am leaving her natural. We are entering 2&3 yr olds. And coloured in-hand. Just hope I don't have to drag he around the ring, lol.

I would try her in unplaited / untrimmed first. She will fill out and develop as she grows and matures. Depending on how you do you can always trim her up afterwards and try the other classes if need be. But I think she is gorgeous as she is and I expect she will do very well. She looks a real sweetie. As you will know, it always it depends on the judges preferences. Good luck and let us know how she gets on and maybe some photos ??

Thanks. I think she's gorgeous too. I'm hoping she will do well, I will try get some piccis hopefully their will be photographer around. She is really sweet she ain't got a bad bone in her body. She's 13.3 to mature to 14hh. She's down as a gypsy cob section A on her passport. It was my friend who suggested to trim her up, plait her and put her in show pony. I love her the way she is. Will see how we get on, on Sunday. She's evenly marked too

If yo haven't already tried these things for the trotting up bit,
try a) very long schooling whip that will reach her quarters without you looking/turning back, then to start with always do in same place (just till she connects voice/actions), walk away then as you turn for trot back, make either clicking noise (you know that sucky/clicky/giddy up sort of sound) or tell her trot but really roll the tr at beginning, always keep it the same and make it sound like you are rareing to go, do this fractionally prior to tapping quarters, but if she shoots forward you must let her for now ie don't sock her in gob cos you didn't expect her to go lol. only do couple of steps then walk and repeat till she is fully understanding the command to go, then just get her running bit further between sessions. b) if this really doesn't work and a bomb is required (joke), get someoen to hold either small tin or plastic drink bottle with small pebbles in, do same process with whip, you etc, but timing is crucial here that the second you jump into your first step of trot the helper shakes the rattle once loudly behind, bit by bit tell helper to lesson the level of shaking till she goes without it
very important not to 'drag' her as no amount of pulling from you is likely to out strength neddy . But it will be case of practice makes perfect and repeat little and often whereever you get an oportunity so its second nature that the verbal command is the first thing she reacts too.
And not the best pics to see her at best but she looks tiny bit light of bone and feather looks bit lighter than a traditional, she looks like she would do very well in the 'native' section of coloured classes, often its trial and error but definately not a sp or shp. Hope she does well for you, good luck she looks nice.

Thanks for advice. I have been practicing I tied a plastic bag on my schooling whip although she's not scared of it, it worked. Lots of commands and praise. Now she knows when I'm going to ask for trot without telling her. I tried the dragging I even put the rope across front of my belly pushing against it, she still wouldn't trot. Tried lunging in trot and running in, not bad, not brilliant. S he planted her feet with the whip and wouldn't budge so decided to put the bag on and bingo it worked, she even trots in front with me at her shoulder, just need a little more practice bringing head down and in but she's getting their. Fast learner she is What sort of angled pictures would be the best colourpiaffe?

Agree with Hunter - she's a nice little baby cob - you can trim her to bits and she won't be a show pony! People are far to ready to whip ponies' hair off these days! Good luck with her X
