warning and a moan I guess, today I found my dog tangled in a wire snare hanging from my perimeter fences to my fields, so!!! To whoever in Preston that thinks its big and clever to capture wildlife especially off my fences....be warned you nearly strangled my dog! police are aware and I have your traps!!!!!!! we have wild deer, pheasants and rabbits popping over and through our fencing what gives them the right to try and catch them (( danger to my dog, cat, horses as well not happy! have reported it to police and snare aware what else can I do!

This happened to us a good few years ago now, our dog was missing for two days, we searched and searched, to cut a long story short, it was winter and very dark i could hear barking, we followed the sound went over fences across fields with a torch until eventually we could see a pair of green eyes! there she was with a snare around her neck, luckily she was a sensible sort and the snare was made from plain wire, the relief and thought of what might have been oh god doesnt bear thinking about, we lost a cat too and im convinced that was his end.

How awful - hateful contraptions. I'd check your fencing regularly for sure and put some signs up
I'm not sure, buuuut I think wire snares (self locking ones anyway) are illegal now - you might want to clarify that and put a poster up to that effect on your fencing making clear police are involved.

The law and guidelines on the use of snares is very woolly to say the least. Ratchet snares are illegal (as said by someone else) - it is illegal to snare deer or badgers (but ok to snare rabbits, grey squirrels and foxes) but as snares as so indescrimate I cannot see how this could work. Time that they were banned completely! Have a look at DEFRA wesbsite for guidelines.
I hope they fact that the police are involved will deter the idiots from setting anymore - I agree very worrying when you have dogs and cats around. Good luck and fingers crossed for you.
