Looking at a lot of pony ads at the moment as we are in the awkward position of selling/loaning/buying/looking for loan.
Why can't people write 'quiet' instead of 'quite?' Also, 'Could have' instead of 'could of?'
Just a pointless observation but very common..............agh!

You're right, it is pointless. You can't turn everyone into scholars, just hope the description is accurate

Language is for communication, if people can't use it properly the communication suffers! So not pointless.

If the typos render the description inaccurate?! Was getting in the car to go view a pony that was advertised as quite and mature .... 14 years old. Had a strange text that I wanted to clarify ..... pony was 14 months ..... now that cannot be 'quite' mature at all - even if it is 'quiet!'
Sorry, I'm an English teacher (off duty!) - feel free to shoot me!

Another moaner here. I went to school in the sixties and spelling and grammar were penalised if you got it wrong. Does matter considerably for an advertisement I think. Just read a post by someone who should have spelled "manner " instead of "manor".

LOL. I was born in Denmark and learned English at school, so I would like to think I learned it correctly. One of my most hated things is the would of/ could of rather than the corect would have / could have. I keep telling my family that there is no such thing as 'would of', it drives me MAD ;D

I once worked with a lady who put a fancy sign up behind the counters for the staff that said 'there is never nothing to do' and i said well shouldn't it be 'there is always something to do' and she went stark mental at me over it but i was correct and its still there to this day lol!!

definately not a pointless moan , when we were at school we had weekly spelling , and grammar tests ,and i like to think , and hope that it wasn't all a waste of time , the could of /should of , drives me mad.

Oh! How I so agree with you! For all that we are penalised by people who name us as the "spelling Police".
I dread to think where the our beloved and correct English Language will be in 100 - 200 years time.

As I said it is a pointless moan as you will never get everyone to spell correctly. Baggygirl do you mean trakehner

Totally agree - it is our language and we should know how to use it - apart from 'could/would of' instead of could have/would have' my other gripe is 'menage' - the word is manege! Menage means household (ie as in menage a trois!)

We simply called them 'schools' in the old days or 'arenas' if posh! At least it didn't sound faintly suggestive!
True 'True' but I don't want everyone to spell correctly ALL the time ..... would be nice ...... but a quick spell check when trying to sell something wouldn't go amiss! I must be missing my day job!
