OH MY GOD, is it me or are some people just plain ingnorant? was hacking the 5yr old out today, was about 4:30pm. thought i'd just keep to the lanes. hack up to my dads field for a canter and back to the stables. drivers looked at me like i shouldnt of been on the road, or they went that close and fast. if the horse had spooked we would of had no chance. OR you et the opperiste where they dont want to over take you. well i wont wave anyone past as i heard it makes you liable and well i dont need that head ache!! am so pleased that the little man behaved himself, since he hasnt hacked out by himself for a while. ok.. moan over

Iv heard that you can be liable as well, and also if you dont have flurorescent [ god did i spell that right] gear on your insurance might not cough up in an accident?! Im on a main country road the traffic does 80mph plus because its so striaght, their looney, especialy the motor bikes, im lucky though i got friendly with the farmer next door i now just go out my drive and up his next door and im totaly off road........and its still all stubbble yay! The downside is if i fall off i worry that the ponies would bolt out his drive on to the road and up mine, any cars would never see them in time. Every ones always in such a hurry now days, drivings bad enough let alone being on the roads on a horse.

i were out one time on my old mare whilst we were acompanying a youngster when we came into difficulty going past a bus shelter that were rattaling in the wind so in between rears i managed to wave and slow the traffic to a stop and how many people dont understand hand signals i did my riding and road saftey just because i am so wary of riding on the roads sorry back to the point after i had managed to stop the traffic we managed to calm the horses just as they were about to go forward some idiot started honking there horn i were fumming i always show courtesy on the roads and am not an idiot but i completley lost it as this womans actions were so dangerouse so i confronted her wich ended up in a full blown argument and her ending up with a large dint in her car not off the horse either

where did the dint come from???
people are all ways in a hurry, they complain when we have wagons at the farm or stop traffic to bring the cows or sheep back to the farm.

i hate it when people say stuff, i'd love them to actually stop and get out!
when i was 15 a guy shouted that he was going to drag me off the horse... i was on my dad's field and he was trespassing!

I hate hacking out for all the reasons mentioned above.
Unfortunately, with little off road riding in my area and not wanting to spend hours and hours in the school it is a necessary evil.
The worst incident I had was on a motorway bridge.
I was riding my old veteran who was very good with traffic (thankfully!) but my friend was riding a rather more skittish horse.
We were on the way back from a long hack and had to cross a motorway bridge with quite low railings. My friends horse started to dance around so we decided the best way to cross was right in the middle of the road to avoid going over, I rode on ahead and gave the hand signal to slow down to on-coming traffic and most were very good, slowing right down or stopping and pulling over while we passed but this one man, a white van man of course, insisted on almost driving into me and had his hand permanently on his horn whilst giving a nice v sign when he passed us!!!!!!!!!!!
My blood was boiling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just no need at all.

What I find hard to comprehend is how many tiny lanes only suitable for one way traffic have national speed limit signs up. These should really be 20 miles a hour because if you meet something coming 60 miles a hour you have shot it. Mind you I managed to fall off today on a quiet lane at walk with no traffic .....and no I didnt bounce But I will be back on tomorrow complete with bruises
